Just because it is so rare to come across a really ste new car:
http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/new-dat...

We always hope car journalists write what they mean while fearing they are in the pocket of the manufacturer/provider of ad revenue for the mag in question.
I think we can safely conclude that Autocar and Hilton Holloway are independent of Nissan:

'The Go’s bodyshell effectively collapsed in the tests and the car has no airbags. However, Global NCAP said airbags would have been ineffectual with such an unstable structure.

Global NCAP chairman Max Mosley said: “It is extremely disappointing that Nissan has authorised the launch of a brand new model that is so clearly sub-standard." '

Taken from http://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/20...

"While the Datsun GO was the worst model to be tested in India, six other popular cars sold there also scored a zero rating. The others are the Suzuki Maruti Swift, Suzuki Maruti Alto 800, the Hyundai i10, the Ford Figo, the Volkswagen Polo, and the Tata Nano. The results are of significance because India is the fifth largest producer in the world of passenger cars."

Loads of cars will be built with matching body panels but cheap as fk underneath out there. VW polo!!!! The real dangerous ones will be the Indian budget brands. May aswel shove an engine on a pushbike

For the Indian market?

I say go for it. Can't be any less safe than a donkey or a moped.

It's
(a) Datsun, not Nissan
(b) not Euro NCAP but Global NCAP, and the different NCAPs don't follow the same standards - Euro NCAP is stricter than ASEAN NCAP, but I have no idea about Global NCAP

Not the same market but a similar sized car: My 2004 Lupo (GTI biggrin), designed in the '90s has a 4* NCAP rating. Not too shabby me thinks!!

I didn't even know "Global NCAP" existed.

I doubt other cars in the target market are much worse.

I may be wrong but I thought the ncap score is constantly evolving. A car getting 4* today would be safer than a 4* given a decade ago.

Euro NCAP is. No idea about this organisation which might or might not be related.

I didn't know that. Doesn't this make comparing vehicles from other decades rather difficult? I mean doesn't this lull buyers in a false sense of security? e.g. car salesman: "yes it's 15 years old, but it has a 5* NCAP ratig. You and your children will be safe!"

Stil, have a look at a crashtest from 2000 with a VW Lupo. I'd say 4* from 14 years ago are still better than 0* in todays money!

NCAP testing is a bit of a waste of time anyway, IMO. Just like the official economy tests, manufacturers are tailoring their cars to the test rather than trying to make them work in a rage of real-world situations. Plenty of modern cars which score very well on Euro-NCAP do terribly if crash tested with a different offset.

Clearly none of these manufacturers care about Indians.

If it was tested now it'd probably get a lot less starts, maybe zero.

Here's footage of a Saxo doing the same test. I'm not 100% sure bet I believe the Saxo was at a slightly lower speed. And it faired much worse! Look at how the floor crumples below the rear seats hehe

Not too bad me thiks. Surely better than the other two!

ETA
Is the windscreen still intact there?? The floor doesn't crumple and the rest of the safety cell looks pretty straight too.

No doubt better than the other two, but the Saxo is a 2 star car! If it was entered into the test now it would be condemned hehe

So the Lupo would be significantly lower than a 4 star car on the new tests!

This Datsun "failure" has not so much to do with the car, and a lot to do with two unsavoury outfits: Global NCAP and ADAC.

Global NCAP is run by that well-known freak Max Mosley who got kicked out as President of the FIA for being caught in the dressed-up as a Nazi, whipping the girls orgy. Or has everyone forgotten? The papers were full of it 5 years ago. Naturally Mad Max tried to get Google to delete all references of this.

ADAC is the German Car Club disgraced for falsifying crash test results on the Dacia, like making it roll over by underinflating the tyres. Earlier this year their president resigned. Mosley uses ADAC to test cars, like the Datsun.

How in hell Mosley managed to get himself head of Global NCAP would probably be worthy of a book. He should be living disgraced in a thatched cottage in Central Wales with sheep as companions. But no, somehow he gets to be head of Global NCAP, a so-called charity organization that goes around trying to shame poorer countries into adopting Global NCAP by crashing cars in tests conducted by ADAC. He then shames countries into paying his organization for "expertise" into writing rules for crash tests in their countries. An unsavoury organization. Global NCAP sounds official, but it's a shake-down private outfit, wherein Mosley swans around meeting high government officials (he was in China recently as well as India) and living the life he feels he deserves.

Look at it logically. Renault-Nissan knows how to design cars, and this Datsun is probably not that bad. Do you think they need Mosley's technical advice? Don't make me laugh.

Here's a link to an article that explains the scam in detail:

http://dailykanban.com/2014/11/whats-wrong-hypocri...

Read that and see how you get manipulated by headlines.
