My girlfriend was driving her car past hampden stadium and came up to this junction

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.8285566,-4.24719...

The guy in his car was roughly where the red car is on the right hand side of the picture in the right hand lane which is a right turn only, my girlfriend was in the middle lane which is straight only and was roughly parallel to where the blue car was.

She was pulling up to the car in front in traffic, was about 5:30pm so lots of traffic about. Then the guy in his car went into reverse and essentially tried to parallel park into the middle lane and reversed into my girlfriends car damaging the front bumper.

She got out the car and the guy stayed in the car, he asked if they could pull over to the side, they went through the junction and took a right turn into that car park you can see on the upper left side of the map picture. This was also a police station, he admitted it was his fault and didn't see her car, gave his contact details and insurance information. She called up her insurers and advised them of the situation, they got the guys details.

He is now ignoring all communication and saying there was no accident.

The area is littered with CCTV as it's next to the national stadium, the legal team for her insurance are still trying to get information but they're saying it could be her word against his which is pretty crap.

Any idea of how this could go? my only concern is if the insurer is unable to obtain the CCTV footage. If they find the footage they'll clearly see him reversing on a very busy junction into another lane so can't imagine he can come out looking innocent.

The damage isn't horrendous and only on one corner due to the angle he hit her at but is still a bit annoying.

I recently had someone hit me then fabricate a pack of lies to their insurer, essentially blaming me. I suspect the only reason it got resolved is because I had taken the details of an independent witness, whose statement supported mine. After the crash, stopping the car behind me was the very first thing I did, the witness had every intention of driving off without stopping, so I would have been stuffed.

Hindsight is a great thing, but always get the details of a witness if available. Without one, if one of the parties is prepared to lie then I don't see how insurers can tell who the liar is with 100% conviction. They're certainly not going to start a 10 man CSI investigation for a £1,000 claim.

Good luck getting it sorted - I suspect getting the CCTV videos is the best plan, but that may not be as easy as it sounds.

I'd imagine the police car park would have CCTV operating in it so I'd imagine if we can prove that he was there with my GF looking over the car he can't really claim nothing happened if the video footage of the crash is rubbish.

I'm now paranoid that someone will hit me, with no witnesses so I'm getting dash cams for my cars and for hers for future cases.

Also would he face any kind of charge for denying the accident and them being proven wrong? I know you can get into trouble for not reporting an accident and driving off but he did stop, did admit fault then drove off and now denying it.

In regards to the dash cam, how would one use it as evidence? would you email it to the people or send them it on disc?

Well it looks like I've helped someone tonight in a similar situation, a guy ran a red light and clipped another car as it was coming out a junction. it's a junction that has no visibility of the main road due to barriers and a hedge so the guy leaving the junction would have no idea of the car running the light until the last moment.

Gave my details as a witness as the guy who ran the light says the other car left too quickly but there's a good few seconds delay between one going red and the other going amber.

In my girlfriends case I am in contact with the council who have a camera at that junction so will review it and they will be able to track the cars (if the angle is alright) going into the police car park where the image will be clearer and can identify them, I'm going over to the station tomorrow to see if they have footage of them in the car park so it'll all piece together.

Also in regards to as how she got his details and reg plate, he could just say it was a scam or something.

Firstly in regards to the traffic light one. If you can testify that the car in front jumped the red great but a green light is not a go signal, it means proceed with caution.

With regards to your girlfriends bump, if you can get CCTV great. If you cant its no biggy. The other drivers insurance will have to explain how you got his details. He wont be able to. I cant if any of my customers deny it the first thing I check is what details the other driver has. If its just a reg then it could be mistaken identity.

There will also be some damage consistent with the damage on your girlfriends car. Our engineers can tell new paint, and if anything is repaired so if they inspect his vehicle then they can see. If he wont let them - guilty.

The only thing that concerns me is that if he admits that there was an accident to his insurer, then the story of him reversing into a lane doesnt wash compared to "She hit me in the rear - wahh its not my fault whiplash/credit hire please".

If he deny s it, then its difficult to change his story. You'll just have to hope that he doesn't say she hit him in the rear!
