Someone altered my tyre pressures without telling me.
Discussion
I found this piece of paper in a plastic bag on my windscreen under a wiper arm when I left work this evening. I was vaguely aware that there was some type of safety check of cars in the works carpark, but assumed one had to volunteer. What annoyed me the most was that only that morning before going to work I had pumped up my tyres using my expensive electronic pump to put the tyres to 36 psi for economy because they are soft walled snow tyres. However someone checked them when I was parked and put them down to 27 psi. I don't know what kit they used because their original measurements were well off my checked with two different gauges measurement. I put the pressures up for economy and some git put them back down for comfort. WHY?
For info the recommended pressures from Volvo are 29 psi front, 29 psi rear. Or for high speed, 36 psi front and rear. Not 27psi front and 31 psi rear they put in.
Anyone else come across this fascist tyre regime?

I'm sure I'll be branded a goatee-sporting company director type, but I would kick right off it I came to find this had happened to my car. How the hell do they know (or not, as it seems) what my circumstances are? How do they know I'm not carrying 4 passengers and luggage? Or that I've paid for nitrogen tyre inflation? Or that I have the pressures I do for any other reason?
The answer, of course, is that they don't and, as usual, the righteous are dangerous, ignorant fools who cause more problems than they solve.
Christ on a bike, I don't ordinarily get annoyed or bothered by what is said on the internet, but this one has really struck a chord.
Take the advice of John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, "do not f
k with another man's ve-hick-kle".
Simon.

Well, without wishing to seem rude, I have to point out that they *did* tell you
I set my tyres to 36psi (2.5 bar) front and 42psi (2.9 bar) rear, as recommended by a little placard inside the car. According to this little placard were I to regularly carry 4 passengers and luggage - which I don't - I should be thinking more along the lines of 38psi (2.6 bar) front and 44psi (3.0 bar) rear! Which I find a little surprising as I'm fairly sure that 45psi is the maximum recommended pressure for every tyre I've owned.
Anyway, perhaps one day one of these people will do this to my car, and upon witnessing the pressure readings perhaps their heads will metaphorically explode.

Summary: the Scottish government paid for this, apparently to reduce CO2s, and it was booked (for free) by your employers.
No wonder the Scottish public sector is so huge.

Volvo's recommended pressures are 29 all round for normal tyres at normal speed with normal load. They put 27 front and 31 rear. I usually run at 36 all round using the tyres that are on which are soft sidewalled snow tyres.
Their creed is economy, according to the leaflet. 27 psi on the front of a V70 on snow tyres does not equate to economy. I drove home to my electric tyre pump in a blissful yankee barge style wallow feeling the rubber and petrol disappear at an alarming rate.

I saw that. This is the same Scotland that wants a state nanny for every child. The same Scotland that pays for my pills. It is getting scarily fascist, even the Police force is now national instead of regional and dress like stormtroopers. Might be getting time to bail south. Addendum. I have already emailed the company to ask them what the hell they are playing at.

OK, I think I can help.
1) I would have made contact with the people responsible for the tyre pressure adjustment issue in quesition, rather than ask a load of random people on the internet.
(Not hard to do as they left their contact details).
http://www.sbcscot.com/programmes/checkinflate/
Tel: 0131 451 1100
2) I would have invited them to return to the scene of the "environmental initiative" (their words, not mine) to undo their ill informed execution which was doubtless based on a knee jerk and immediate requirement to satisfy some political will.
3) Upon their return I would probably engage in a major debate as to what constitutes private property and trespass.
4) If 3 proved unsuccessful, I may have to use 'reasonable and minimum force required'
5) I would then get them to reset my tyre pressures.
5a) (If unsuccessful) Reset my own tyre pressures and then buy a white suit, a fold-up spade and a bag of lime and drive to the Hebrides to dispose of the evidence.
6) Move from Scotland
7) Draw a moustache and silly glasses on the next picture of Alex Salmond you see in the daily papers.

If they got the pressures right it would almost be a good idea, especially for a lot of cars where I work. Many have flats or soggy tyres. However I run my mondeo roughly half way between the empty/fully loaded pressures as it gives good balance. Eg 34psi front, 36psi rear. And would be annoyed if anyone changed it.
