Any advice on best system for a screen mount to record driving tour.
Go Pro 4 black is out soon, but is this too good?

Go pro is a great camera, but not what I would use for this purpose. I use go pro for high quality production, but not for the windscreen.

I use a mobius http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/151446913747?nav=SEARCH

Buy the mounts that you want, very un obtrusive also.

I use a Lukas LK series cams. I've bought LK7900, LK7700 and LK7300. I got them from the Korean importer (Greensum on fleabay).

Some of the footage on here, all 1080p 30fps.

I'm a big GoPro fan but I'm not sure it is best for this sort of thing. I've used mine on the dash and suctioned to the outside. It gives some good footage but the nature of the fisheye lens doesn't lend itself to driving footage that well. Also without an external mic with a furry head it picks up alot of wind noise. In fairness the 4th gen models are supposed to have improved in this area but I can't confirm as I've got an older one.

Best cam in an industry mag I read recently was Sony's lipstick type cam - beat the go pros. Didnt take too much notice as I have a Go Pro!

Unless you do a lot of different angles, outside shots and a whole heap of editing, road trip vids tend to be as dull as dishwater,

I feel GoPros are more suited to extreme sports and close quarter action

I recorded most of my tour last year on the GP Hero3, still not edited it down yet but the raw footage is great quality.

Looks like that Sony got a pasting in the reviews.
http://gizmodo.com/sony-action-cam-as100v-review-g...

I also noticed the Gopro 3+ & 4 has a focus change. Apparently the focus has shifted to nearer so panoramic shots suffer over the 3.
If you're going gopro, get a 3 unless you want 30fps at 4k.

Thanks for all the helpful comments.
Sunday Times did a review yesterday of Dash Cams, and seemed to rate the Go Pro 4 Black.
I'm sure that's way too good for what I have in mind. I want good battery capacity, so no wire hanging down. GPS, and wifi.
I assume I can take stills off the video?
Not sure which way to go on this

Sony did well in this pro (rather than more consumer) test. https://library.creativecow.net/spottedeagle_dougl... >big tech geek alert mind<

I have a 3+Black, not done loads with it but the picture quality is great. The main issue is very poor battery life if wifi is left switched on - the wifi remote is useful for switching the camera on and off especially if it's mounted on the outside of the car but it really kills the battery.

You can get a 'backpack' battery. Comes with the case extension and doubles the endurance. Might be what your looking for.

For telly jobs I run the GoPro battery backpack, the deep skeleton case (cutouts on side) and plug in a mini USB to a 7000mAh mobile phone type charger pack gaffered somewhere nearby. That's two belts and one pair of braces! Palaver. Think I need to buy that Sony one to put my money where my mouth is...!
