I have tried and failed to find the answer to this using the search facility so please bear with me.

Just send off my V5/C with completed V778 to get private plate put on retention.

I understand they will write to me with the new registration number for the vehicle- and again the retention plate letter will follow

Is the tax reamining on the private plate automatically transferred to the new regsitration number ? and presumably as we dont use tax discs anymore this is all done centrally ?

Thanks for your counsel.

Thanks for confirming

And finally - the V778 made no mention of needing to send in the MoT certificate.... Again i presume this is all done centrally ?

Yes, just checked on the database and a new MOT cert issued with the 'new' reg no.

i am still not sure that I should have sent the current MoT certificate with the V5/c and completed v778 ...... There are so many different versions of v778 about that its hard to know which one is live

So to confirm I still have the current MoT certificate for the vehicle - or have I messed up ?

Sorry, NO, my mistake, the tax doesn't need to be sent in but the MOT should be sent in with the V5c and V788/1.

Poo! that means I have messed up and will need to send of the current MoT separately and a covering letter.

In situations like this when incomplete documentation has been sent what is the best plan ? Phone them up and tell the additional documentation is en route and not to bounce the application ? Or will they just bounce it irrespective ?

Yes call, but be prepared to be 'on hold' for a while.

I would wait and see what their response is. No one else asks for the MoT certificate any more, not even to tax the vehicle. It can be checked on their own computer so why do they need the paper bit?

Wait and see.

I am with you - but reading the form again it does say MoT is needed to besent - just needs a jobsworth to be sitting there rather than someone who can use the appropriate databased correctly.
