Looking past the wheels and interior color what would the bork factor in this be?

I love beige interiors. Especially at this time of year as they look less depressing. As far as borkage it is high mileage stuff I reckon. Diesel pump, injectors and the likes. At nearly 160k if it is on original suspension it will need some work but I am no expert. Why not go and have a look if it's close. Drive it and see how it is.

No, because someone else will have snapped it up.

Get it inspected, remove the swirl flaps if that hasn't already been done as you don't want those disappearing into the engine.

I've got a 530d the same age and 152k miles, had an absolute nightmare with it, has cost a fortune over the last few years. I'd avoid getting one with that kind of mileage on now after my experience, engine great, rest of the car totally shot.

Iv basically had to replace the suspension all round (arms, wishbones, shocks and airbags (rear air suspension on the touring). Rear subframe bushes, prop shaft bearing.. the list goes on. Has cost thousands. Not to mention the box of receipts from the previous owner showing issues with the automatic gearbox leaking from the sump and a replacement turbo in its past...

I had a rear suspension failure while driving which caused a lot of damage.

I also have the common issue with the wiring loom through the tailgate breaking up, this causes no end of issues as there's an electronic module in the rear spoiler and if the wiring breaks enough you wont be able to get the boot open to fix it.. fun times.

Then there's the leather looking worn out and the rattling and creaking.. just doesn't feel like the kind of quality you are looking for from a BMW.

The only reason I still own mine is down to how much I have spent on keeping it together, just going to run it till it dies now I think.

  • Cheap Fiesta purchase cost.
  • Expensive BMW running costs.
Avoid - unless you feel you are in the market for an expensive BMW.

Pleased to hear that nothing changed in the E60 from the E39, mine was also a total bloody moneypit from 100K onwards, I was in the garage every month with it.

Lovely car, but in my ownership I never once got the suspension properly sorted despite spending hundreds on it frown
