One of those days....
Discussion
Hi Peeps..Well the plan for today was to get some fuel and waterproof my Wedges roof..Possibly a hoover and interior clean if the sun did come out as forecasted..Anyway about mid-day the sun could be seen trying to break through the clouds so i uncovered Poppy and proceeded to warm her up...I always check for petrol leaks as it has been happening from time to time since i had all the fuel hoses changed a few months back...Anyway i did have a bit of a little puddle forming in the V so squeezed up the clip a little to stem it...Once she has been running for a few seconds the leaking stops, One of those should of done it myself jobs and will soon...Anyhow while she was getting up to temp it started raining so i thought oh well i can do the roof tomorrow so decided to get fuel and some boxes for packing some bits up in instead..
Got to my usual fuel station only to find it rammo and with even more people trying to get in...I think it must of been "Pre-Tanker delivery happy hour" so i thought okay next one up the road....This was closed due to refurb....So i knew of one a few miles away so i decided to go to my garage first, As it was on the way to get a couple of large plastic containers i have and need to use...Go there and then realised i didn't have my key...Bah!!! so thought just get some fuel and some cardboard boxes from my local shops..I got to the petrol station...Pulled up at the pump which said "Ultimate"...Removed my filler cap...Inserted the hose..Started to squeeze the trigger, As this was happening i thought to my self..Pah.. £135 per litter...I bet its not even 97....Looked at the pump again and saw the word "DIESEL"....
Good job i think quick..Or is it panic..I don't know but this luckily only happened for about 5 seconds so i only managed to put around 3.2 litres of diesel in...
I move to the correct pump while thinking.."Ultimate"...Yeah ultimate tw@t!
I put 30 sobs in of 97 ron..Around 22 litres..I didn't panic just swore a lot on the way to and from the cashier....When i drove the car it started to pick up a bit after about 50 yards and felt different to what I'm used to..It seemed to feel more aggressive but grippy if that makes sense?...Almost like it was on alert mode...
Anyway got back home 35 sobs lighter...No plastic containers or boxes..And a wet roof...
But was wondering if a mix of 1:7 of diesel to petrol ratio made this big difference?....It certainly smells nicer coming out the back....
This smell also reminded me of when the Gredge had a dose of diesel early one morning...
..(Sorry Chris)...I think Chris put more than me in but the ratios might of been similar..I don't think the Gredge disapproved as it was still hard work to keep up with it.... Has anyone else done similar and actually noticed a positive result?...I did read that there is some research as regards to mixing these two fuels to create better economy and less pollutants in modern cars although there are of course the opposite reactions from those in the know...Makes me wonder though if that was the case then why do oil companies bother with all the different refining processes to achieve variations of fuel...Mind you they do put additives in...
....Maybe its a conspiracy...OIL MONOPOLY:..."Don't let on that if you mix diesel and petrol in a said ratio it will increase the performance and economy of you vehicle regardless of age and will lubricate and clean your engine and produce almost 30% less emissions"..."However if these proportions are wrong or adversely reversed the effect will be catastrophic in any vehicle...Mmmm...Best if we say nothing after all then"....."Superfuel or Superfool"...

Years ago I had an MGB and my mum and dad used to drive it as well as me. One day my mum was out and noticed it needed petrol so she stopped and filled it up only she put diesal in duh! Anyway she managed to get home just but it was running rough, when me dad had a look he discovered what she had done and after a heated argument I watched him trying to syphon it out of the tank using a bit of hose pipe. He was rather peed off when he got a mouthfull of diesal. Still bring the subject up now at family gatherings much to my mums disgust.
Sounds like you did not put too much in so you should be fine. Do not over rev the car and keep topping up the fuel with fresh 97 listen for any pinking. Like me you will then need to replace the primary fuel filter and clean the plugs
Think you may have had the same mishap as me with the pumps being marked premium unleaded and premium diesel
Just take it easy on the car until the diesel is out of the car. If I recall diesel is heavier than petrol so will go to the bottom of the tanks and be first out / used.

Have I ever told you that some of the work we do involves inspecting the pipes and tanks on the storage/ distribution depots around the country...?
....Maybe its a conspiracy...OIL MONOPOLY:...Tankers come in from various supermarkets and chain filling stations and they take on fuels at the SAME stands using the SAME pipes from the SAME tanks. At no point is anything added.
So all those fuel distributors are selling the SAME product, regardless of what their blurb might claim.
Also, some of the refineries are adding a percentage of vegetable oil to the diesel (which means you aren't buying 100% diesel); this came to light after the protracted winter of 2012/13 when the cold temperatures meant the veg. oil was coagulating in fuel systems. My old Connect fell foul of it and it cost us £700 to have it fixed. At the same time there was an almost-new Focus alongside it having a major fuel system rebuild, having been recovered by the RAC. The owner was trying to get the repairs under warranty but Ford were having none of it, saying that the fuel filter looked like a block of cheese when they cut it open. As the filter was doing its job (i.e. catching the cr*p in the fuel) they wouldn't fix it for free.
My Rover P4 had about 2 gallons of diesel in it once (the filling station had black hoses/pistols for both 4* and diseasel) After I realised I got the spanner out and drained the tank - as it has a drain plug - into an old gallon oil container. Which filled up, so the diesel got poured into the drains, the flower beds, you name it around the station.
I ran it from Bishop's Stortford to Chelmsford that night after filling with 4*, it wasn't running quite right and was a bit smokey but no lasting damage was done, and was back to normal on the next tankful.
