Throttle cable - am I missing something?

Hi guys,

(Apologies for length of post!)

After my previous posts I took the plunge a few weeks ago and am now the owner of a lovely (blue!) '96 4.0 HC! Its a little older than I wanted but the guy had had it since new and it had been treated better than his first-born, and seems to have been maintained regardless of cost. It was certainly the best out of the 8 or so I also tried and it was the first one I ever drove!

Touch wood, its been absolutely faultless so far (doesn't even leak) and i'm enjoying it immensely - just wish it was drier!

Anyway, I do have one small niggle - i'm a bit of a shortarse and, though I can reach the pedals, i'd like to have them a little closer, especially the accelerator. The clutch and brake I can see are easy, but I can't for the life of me see how to adjust the throttle - theres just one pivot and an adjustment for the throttle stop. I've looked through the bible and can't find any concise instructions (sorry Steve!). The throttle also has about 1/2 cm of slack in it like i'd like to take up (i like an instant throttle) and though I can see what needs to be done at the engine side of things I can't for the life of me see how to get to it - am I missing something?

I can just about get a spanner on the lock nut, but can't see any way of getting to the adjuster! Short of having hexagonal fingers anyway.

I've read through a few threads and someone mentioned taking the whole assembly off, I don't see how you can adjust the cable when its not in postion, maybe i'm wrong?

Its only a small problem, and to be honest isn't a reflection on the car at all, just the guy who owned it before was a bit taller! I'm just a bit frustrated that, after years of doing my own work on cars, i'm being tested by a throttle cable!

No you're not missing anything, the standard setup is only adjustable on the clutch and brake. Leven do a replacement for the accelerator, which gives you full adjustment.

I've just replaced my throttle cable due to brakage - the only way is to take the throttle housing off, which comprises of 4 3/8 bolts (top two are easy the other two inside the housing are a bit harder)
Best to loosen off and then unscrew with fingers if possible.
Housing will then be able to be removed be carefull with the throttle spring when removing.
You will now be able to access the cable adjuster, loosen both bolts with a spanner then refit the housing and adjust the nuts by hand will only need to be finger tight.
