An E39 530i sport or E38 7 series would be my choice.

Might struggle finding a decent 530i sport for that money. Should get a nice pre facelift 528 though. Or the least sought after variant, the 535i, which are very cheap for what they are.

Lots of e39 5 series within that budget. Still a benchmark car in the saloon large segment. Incredibly comfortable, fantastic steering in the case of the 6 cylinder models a great chassis and plenty of toys. Lots have high miles but most cars of this ilk have been well serviced.

A year and a half a go we got a 2004 2.5 turbo (petrol) auto AWD Volvo V70. FVSH, 80k, mint, years tax and brand new all-season tyres all round. £2750. Every gizmo works, not a spot of rust.

It appears to have every extra (TV, phone, nav, leather, dual zone climate, heated seats, fold down dog guard, sunroof, auto wipers, parking sensors, cruise, blah blah). Very nice place to be on a long trip. Goes well in a straight line but a bit boaty round the bends. Fantastic car.

Yep they're brilliant cars. My friends and family, who mainly drive around in fairly new fietas/fabias etc were genuinely shocked when I told them my mint, 68k 530i cost about half what they paid for their tinny hatchbacks.

A lexus GS or LS no good? I always thought the japanese cars tended to have more gadgets in them and BMWs tended to have less.

Nice cars ive driven a GS and it was nice but I noticed the interior plastics seemed to creak and rattle.Could have just been this particular car though.
