A friend posted this picture to the wife today. Apparently at a BP garage in Cambridge, when the forecourt attendant was challenged, he suddenly forgot how to speak English.
Just thought I would give a heads up, I have to admit I'm guilty of just shoving the nozzle in and squeezing the trigger until full. I never check the maths.

It may be that a minimum delivery must be dispensed before it is accurate but that doesn't sound right to me.

I never use BP anyway.

Did a little test of fuel a while back based on miles per £20 - I found shell were the best, with BP being the equivalent of rats piss in performance & efficiency.

Do the maths

1.1p is 0.9% of £1.239, so the litres counter is just about to click over to 1.01 litres. The pump is probably fine.

Exactly the same journey for every test?

Not sure if serious...

Around here, the local BP Garage is a few pence per litre dearer than others in the area. This being the case, you wouldn't get as far on £20 as you're not buying as much fuel.

Pump measure in .01 litre increments so 10ml.

Lets say it gave 1.0049 litres then rounded to the nearest 10ml it would register as 1.00 litres, 1.0049 * £1.239 = £1.2450711 which rounded to the nearest penny is £1.25.

Better test would be price of 10 litres

Someone used a phone on a forecourt with the whole lot exploding in a fireball. How odd.

At the time there was very little in it

The Shell V-Power was more expensive, but got 120 miles from £20 (roughly mid 30s to the gallon, it was when fuel was little more expensive around 2.5 years ago). Tesco Momentum was around 110 miles, with the normal Tesco and Shell Unleaded returning around 110 miles but with a slightly noticeable difference in throttle response and general engine smoothness. BP fuel consistently returned around 80 miles.

I'm perfectly serious about it, and as sceptical & pedantic as the forum ever is there was a notable difference in the way the engine ran and responded on BP fuel. I used it on occasion as it was literally 100 yards away, but it was always worth the extra distance (1 mile or so) to go to Shell or Tesco due to the above.

Most pumps deliver slightly over what's indicated anyway. So instead of being a cock and posting pictures just get Weights and Measures to take a quant sample from the pump.

No

Mythbusters tried and failed. IIRC they even put a phone in a room filled with petrol vapour and still couldn't make it ignite the vapou

There is a post on Facebook with thousands of idiots re-posting it. Sad times.
