Career Help Please - Where Would You Live?
Discussion
I'm thirty, have no ties (I did until this week, but I'm trying to keep the violins at bay) & have good qualifications for earning cash (ACCA accountant).
A change of lifestyle is needed so I'm seroiusly considering leaving this rock. I want better weather & a better quality of life.
If you were given the chance to work anywhere in the World (as opposed to partying anywhere in the World) where would it be? Unfortunately I have no other language skills other than the Queen's own so my shortlist is...
New Zealand - is my favorite & I'm trying to do some research
USA - is full of Americans but if I picked the right city I might enjoy it.
Australia - the only problem is there attitude towards speed.
But where to live in each country?
Please Help.

I'm off to NZ in march. If I like it I'm seriously considering moving out there.
Both I and my wife could get decent jobs and our equity from the Uk buys us a palace.
Awesome place spent 4 months then over 4 trips love it. Best friends retired there at 35 after working in the city and love it! I go as often as I can!
Not that I want any more of you buggers down here, but I reckon the Westcountry is pretty much the most beautiful place in the world (as far as I am concerned). I had the choice when I left Uni, Teeside or the Maine in the US. I decided to become a beach bum in good old Cornwall. Wise choice. Life is too short to live in a city.
A couple of friends have just come back from NZ - spent a year living in Christchurch and absolutely loved it - tons of stuff to do , cheap living but salaries MUCH less than UK.
I grew up in the USA and loved it - would highly recommend : Alaska , Washington state (Seattle area), Southern California , Hawaii - forget about the redneck bit in the middle of the USA. ( I've never been to the East Coast )
Other areas to consider : Cape area of South Africa , Vancouver / BC in Canada.

Thanks for the replies.
I can see that the salaries are a fair bit less in NZ but then I'm sure the cost of living is lower - although that won't help pay for some decent wheels, but then again Holdens are made down under. I'm not too sure about their mambypambyness towards speed but the country is a little larger than the UK & they have only about 4m people living there. The climate wouldn't come as too much of a shock either - it rains a lot, like here but doesn't get quite so cold in the winters.
The only small problem I have with NZ is the flight as although I have no kids or other halves to worry about - it is still a long way for me to get back home if I want to see my parents, I suppose that was the attraction with the US & perhaps even Canada.
It's such a big decision and it's the first time in my life that I've ever been in this position. I've always thought about living overseas but have never been far enough along in my career to support the move. It could be this year or never.
Or I could start buying lottery tickets& spend the £x millions on buying a beach property over in Italy where they really appreciate a nice car.

Take the risk and go! - If you don't like it you can always come home - but you'll probably experience loads of things you wouldn't otherwise and have a great time
(FWIW my experience......I was offered 2 years overseas when I was 24 - wasn't sure whether to go (it was the Falklands - a 2 week journey out via SOuth Africa ) - was given 2 days to decide ... went for it and loved every minute. ))
