Long Way Round
Discussion
Ewan McGregor's and Charley Boorman's account of their 20,000 voyage across the globe on two BMW motorbikes is truly amazing. Their journey took them across Europe, the Ukrain, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, across the Pacific Ocean to Alaska, down through Canada to America , ending with a flight from NYC to London. Their individual accounts of their journey make for compulsive reading. I was moved to both laughter and tears by their frank accounts of their magical expedition which revealed to them the lives and cultures of many different people and their countries. McGregor is a beautiful writer and storyteller. It is hard to believe what they endured. I can't imagine travelling through Mongolia on a bike with a fully laden weight of three quaters of a ton, struggling to negotiate what amounted to dirt tracks, gravel and rivers. Their accounts are truly inspirational. You will have nothing but complete and utter admiration for the two men and their cameraman Claudio. Even if you aren't into bikes, you will surely love this book.
Thanks to Ace-T and Judas for giving me such a fantastic gift. It made me very lonesome for a past life of biking, but at the same time inspired me to do something meaningful and adventurous.
