I have pretty much made my mind up to buy a Kline Innovation system for my 2007 997 turbo. However, before doing so I wanted to ask out there if any others have fitted this system to their 997 turbo, and their thoughts.

I have also been told that the O2 sensors, of which there are four(?), may be an issue when removing from the current standard system, and I should be prepared to possible buy new ones. Have others experienced this when changing exhausts?

Any help and feedback gratefully received.

Cheers,
Rob

It's certainly possible to strip threads when removing the O2 sensors from the old exhaust and I had this on my turbo on one out of four sensors. It is probably avoidable but requires lots of patience, heat and penetrating spray!

Also depends on age/mileage and how corroded the old system is but the advice you have been given seems sound in terms of be prepared at over £200 each, it could add quite a bit to the cost of the swap.

I had Europipe so cannot comment on the Kline but I hope you have managed to listen to one inside a car in real life for an extended period as YouTube and even listening to YouTube drive by'so from outside is not the way to make your decision.

Good luck!

I fitted the Kline system to my 2007 997T and am very happy with it. As regards fitting this is straight forward the biggest job is removing the rear bumper and then the difficulty in removing the nuts and studs that clamp the Cats to the turbos. The nuts that Porsche fit are designed to distort when tightened and effectively thread lock them. when you try to undue them usually you pull the stud along with the nut. I replaced all the studs and used aerotite stainless lock nuts instead of the Porsche ones. Removal of the sensors I found easy, leave them in the old exhaust until you have removed the old system, I un plugged all the sensors tied some string to each and pulled them clear of the car before removal of the system, the string will help you pull the sensor wires back when the new system is installed. Then with the system off a light tap on a well fitting spanner moved them no problem. In addition to new studs and nuts you will need 2 x turbo to cat gaskets. May also be worth fitting some Lambda cheats to the sensor bosses after the cats. These are a hexagonal spacer with a small amount of catalyst gauze in them and fit between the rear cat boss and the sensor. I had a few intermittent CEL lights ( reduced catalyst efficiency on my RHS engine bank ) the lambda cheats solved this problem. The Kline makes a nice noise not too loud and no drone.

Thanks for the advice - all seems sensible. I have not actually sat in a Kline equipped 997T, so am only going on feedback and what performance exhaust people have said to me. I can see that Design911 sell the O2 sensors for £140 each, so if I'm unlucky enough for two of them to go then it's not the end of the world.

Before I press the button on this I don't suppose RAWENG you're based anywhere near Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire are you?!?

You need 8 new studs 8 new nuts 2 gaskets and something to heat the old rusty nuts and studs.

I found it easier to use a nut splitter to remove the nuts off the studs between the cats and turbos. The type that you simply tighten using a spanner. I had made my mind up to replace all the studs and locknuts with aerotite.
