All,
I've now had my P&J - a blue 98 Chimaera 5.0 - for 3 days and am totally in love with it. Already been spotted twice - even better! Excellent Xmas present to myself.
Just a few points -
1. Been considering a headlight conversion - what does this do to the value of the car when it comes to resale (not that I intend to part with her for a long time mind)
2. Seatbelt is a bit of a hassle, but reading the posts here, something to live with unless anyone has a fix I've yet to find
3. Rear view mirror - noticed after driving back on the M25 you tend to get it right in the eye from the growing number of kiddy carriers - anyone have any great ideas on an auto dimming mirror (Been spoilt in my BMW)
4. She ticks over at about 950rpm - this seems a bit high compared to other cars - worth getting adjusted?
5. Opinions on the AVIC-X1 would be gratefully received.
I must also say thanks to Peter at Mr Blyth's, for making the decision an easy one!
I look forward to words of wisdom from PHers
PS huge grin on face
PPS even bigger grin this morning when I drove past several Max Muppets and set their alarms off.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! It looks crap on a Chim (but there are many that like it) might affect resale in that a lot are done when the car is front ended.

Live with it

Dip it yourself you lazy git!

No, that is correct

AVIC X-1 is the latest sat nat unit from pioneer that has a dvd player built in, plus a 6ish inch screen - all comes from one din slot. you can also attach a rear view camera and watch the people behind you!
appreciate your comments richard - think that it is a bit of marmite syndrome on the headlight conversion.
thanks,
lazy git - just didn't think to try and dip it myself - doh!

You are very welcome. Correct, it is the marmite syndrome - but clearly I like marmite on toast (Cerb) but not bread (Chim)if you've seen the profile.
The Sat Nav auto pilot DVD CD DSO DFC VC DSM and Bar is NOT the thing for a Chim mate. save the money and get a sports exhaust, it's much much better than any music system.

re the space station control room you're thinking of putting in (AVIC X1 thingy).
Probably a v bad move as when it pops out it'll take up several inches in front of the stereo unit - this could well interfere with the gear stick.
Which leaves two solutions
1: only drive in 2nd, 4th and reverse
2: convert to automatic (should be good for a laugh)
3: use a map. Getting lost in a chim is part of the fun
