Is the EML remaining on a MOT failure point?

My car passed its MOT earlier this month with the Engine Management Light on, so either the tester didn't notice or it is not a failure point.

In my experience its totally dependant on how observant/ professional the MOT station is.

I had a mkiv Supra with a dash like a Christmas tree, passed 2 MOTs at different stations.

I had a Z3 with a passenger airbag light which was a fail. My mechanic didnt have the right reset tool so he whipped out the bulb. Same tester passed it, even though the light never came on at all.

Other than the possible implications for the health of the car (current fault or just requiring a reset?) I wouldn't sweat an EML too much come MOT time. Pay the £30/ 40 again at the other station down the road, it'll probably get through.

The older and more 'this country has gone to the dogs' I get, the more I feel MOT testing needs to get more stringent. I've had tests all over the UK, and Ive seen places where you could get a death trap through no problem. Wouldn't fancy the sh*tter behind me having to perform an emergency stop on the motorway with his 'just scraped through' brakes...

The EML is not testable, it's not even mentioned in the testers manual, advise only at worst. Airbag (SRS) lights aren't required to illuminate at all, so a missing one is a pass. The MOT test is a minimum standard just above scrap and well below looked after.

As above.

Bit on SRS systems is here:

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s05000401.htm

"As far as practicable, check that all airbags fitted as original equipment are present and not obviously defective."

The only other way you'd fail would be via an alternative warning on the car, i.e. with higher-spec Peugeots they display 'Airbag Fault' on the MFD as well as a light on the cluster
