I have a Cayman GTS ordered for collection in March, however I also have the 1st LOI in for a GT4. Now the OPC have come back and said that orders for the GT4 can be placed in March, which is too soon to the GTS order.

Now I do want a second car in addition to the GT4, but a CGTS is too similar and too expensive.

I'm tempted to get a boxster, at least its different enough to the GT4 and much cheaper then the GTS.

Any other options I should be looking. Popped in to OPC mid sussex and they have a second hand 997.2 turbo for £58k I'm tempted by that. At least with the 997 i can fit a roof rack for bikes and skis

Any opinions....

I've just cancelled mine for pretty much the same reason......I'd ordered Paint to Sample and was told to expect a May 2015 delivery. Dealer tries to tell me that GT4's won't arrive till the very end of 2015, if 2015 at all, even though all other sources are indicating Q2/3 of 2015...........way too close to delivery of a £70k+ GTS for me.

Dealer told me they could get a racing yellow car for the end of the year, I would have took that. They added my spec and it went to middle of Feb....which I would have put off till the new reg in March.....but then I'm waiting 4/5 months for a car in a colour that isn't my first choice..........

Admittedly it wasn't the dealer whom I had the LOI in with, but this afternoon, OPC Mid Sussex said orders in March with deliveries starting as soon as April. I'll speak to OPC Guildford about it tomorrow and see what they say!

If it is deliveries end of 2015 then I still might go for it. But I don't want to fork out for a GTS for 5 months and loose 10k, on the otherhand, I don't think I would loose too much money if I bought something like a 997 turbo!

There seems to be too many sources saying mid 2015 for deliveries for it to not be fairly accurate, I suspect my OPC was just trying to ensure I ordered .

I'm thinking similar to you, got an deposit in for a GT4 and just about to buy a Cayman R hopefully! smile

If you buy from and sell back via an OPC, I will be surprised if they won't be looking to make at least £5k at each end of the deal?

IMO cancel the GTS and save yourself at least 10k. Remember the Boxster Spyder will launch around the same time as the GT4 (I have confirmation from two OPCs) so you have that option too.

The GT4 and Spyder are regular models so would most likely be delivered quicker than special models like the GT3 which have seen delays for numerous reasons.

As for that 997 Turbo ask for a trade in price if you will - may lose 15-20k via OPC.

The GT4 is not a regular model as it is being built by the same team as the GT3, it is also going to be limited in numbers.

Ok, so I've done some man maths and decided I can afford the GT4 as a third car when I comes. However I can't afford the GTS and the GT4 and they are too similar both being fast caymans (not exactly the same, but you know what I mean), so I think I'm going to go with a plain Boxster, unfortunately, I have it very clear in my head exactly what I want so this is the Boxster I'm going to get...

Now I have heard of discounts around the 10% mark which would be great, it means I would be borrowing 40K instead of 60K reducing the monthly payments to about 600 instead of over a grand.

Is there anything on the spec that I am missing?

Why spec and buy a new Boxster? Just go to autotrader.co.uk and choose from hundreds of 981s in any colour, spec and options you want, and for £10-15k off OPC prices.

As for me, I took delivery of my B-GTS on Monday and frankly I doubt the car needs any more power at all, the GT4 is probably too hardcore for daily use IMHO.

It depends when and where you need to drive.

Its likely to get the weight down that that the GT4 will lose its under-body protection and get a 3 year rust warranty only. If this is the case yes, you can drive it through winter but many will be garaged.

As I am a family man an ideal garage is a roadster and a mile munching coupe. Boxster & 997 Turbo with roofbox would be my pick.

If single, GT4 and a Boxster 987.2. Run the boxster on 18inch winters through December>April and heated seats on full.

That is my thinking, just a plain jane boxster for daily duties all year round. A gt4 for those special occasions.

I think I will wait until I'm ready to buy and buy a second hand boxster probably black on black with 20inch Carrera classics. Only thing There seem to be quite a few of those around and then the GT4 will be built to my exact spec.

Not quite on topic, but I run a 987 Boxster s for winter use and general trips out, then when the weathers good and the mood takes me I take the Ferrari out.
To be honest the Boxster is more than most will ever need if they have something special for special occasions like a Gt3 or Gts or whatever, Mike
