Guys,

There's a question on the Corvette Forum (thread below) concerning Euro spec cars and whether they had to be detuned for the US market. To the best of my knowledge Euro spec cars are the same performance spec as US spec cars???

Any ideas?

The Euro spec car produces 339ps. A Euro-Camaro produces 288ps which is 284bhp so the Vette is around 335bhp. As far as I know, there was only ever one Euro-spec motor but it makes sense that the later Vettes probably got the LS6 intake. The Euro computer is a slightly different tune and the exhaust and intake are supposed to be more restrictive. However, as I've proved with the Z28, a cat-back exhaust and a better filter will have the car running just as fast as any US Vette which had 345bhp and later on 350bhp. As far as I know, the Euro-Vette has always claimed 339ps.

There are many many detail differences between US and Euro Vettes from the glass to the headlamps to the bayonet bulbholders to the fact that Euro-Vette wheels sit 1/2 an inch further inboard than US cars
etc etc etc.

Indeed. While cruising gently the other day I found one of those new Bentleys taking a keen interest in my rear bumper. When the jolly fellow found his passing opportunity and disappeared off into the sunset (winter gloom) it's just as well the old bill weren't out with their laser gun because he'd have been marched straight off to join Fletcher and Mr Mackay at Her Majesty's pleasure. C5 is well quick enough and it's a great car to enjoy driving slowly with the stereo turned up and the cruise turned down.
