As per the title really.

Its a 6 year old watch, worn every day. Stainless Steel with Oyster bracelet and engine turned bezel. Slight ding on the case that'll need refinishing.

The shop I bought it from are no longer an AD but their watchmaker has been servicing Rolex watches for over 30 years and has always done mine with no probs.

However he's quoting £375 for a service with a 1 year warranty (from the shop, not from Rolex)

Waddya think?

Doesn't sound far off Rolex pricing to be honest - may be better just sending it to them through an AD?

It did seem a bit pricey, mind you its awhile since I had one serviced, took my old one in for second service and was persuaded to upgrade which is how I got the current one (didn't need a lot of persuasion hehe)

Sorry Joe - I don't get down to your neck of the woods too often and I wouldn't trust anything of value to our wonderful postal service...

No problem smile I've never had a problem with post but I can fully understand people who're reluctant to trust it smile

I just find it mindblowing sometimes what some places quote when prestige names are involved. I've got an IWC in at the moment which needs a couple of movement parts, an original crown + a service. My quote was £320 which, frankly, I'm earning quite well on. The next best quote the owner had received was.... £1300. Same parts cost, same labour involved to do the job and an extra £1k just cos it said "IWC" on the dial!!!

To get a chrono Patek or AP serviced by their official service centre doesn't cost that much.

The last AP I sent in cost me £800 to service and £200 for a polish I think - and my last Patek might have actually been slightly less.

I think that £1300 quote must be by a dubious watch shop trying it on.

It was one of the national chains that specialises in prestige watches.

The big hike was because the centre seconds pinion and friction spring have been removed at some point and the pinion is a restricted part, so only "authorised" repairers can order it easily. Which means that those with access to parts can effectively quote what they like.

Incidentally, all you Swatch Group owners out there, get used to the idea of a lot more of that going on in the near future!
