What does this mean? I thought DD were monthly payments?

I have the choice between:

How would you prefer to pay?

Payment card

6 Months at £99.00
12 Months at £180.00

Direct Debit
Monthly (approximately £15.75 per month) totalling £189.00
6 months (one off payment) at £94.50
12 months (one off payment) at £180.00

I'd clearly rather pay a one off payment of £94.50...?

I know this is going to sound condescending, but what about this exactly is giving you trouble?

I don't understand your question. The list of options seems very clear to me.

I get it now.... Every 6 months they'll take £94.50 out of my account.

I'm tired!

Quite possibly the reference to the direct debit payment is because the mong who worded that part of the website, is part of the growing number of cretins who think direct debit is the long card number.

I thought this when I renewed mine.

It was the 'once only' (or similar) wording that made me look twice.

Do they take one payment now and then take another in 6/12 months time, but only with your permission at the time, or do they just debit it automatically?

As usual, some div has messed up the wording.

Yes, it's really unclear. If only they'd written something clearer like 'One off payment' for all the one off payments, and a cost per month for the monthly payments.
Having just paid mine about 6 minutes ago, this really confused me.

Oh no, hang on, it didn't at all. Because they did all the things above.

Pay a tad more and get it at the post office. fk them trying to tip us all over to direct debits just cos it makes things easy for them.

TX.

To be fair they haven't exactly made it 100% moronic idiot safe with pictures etc.

So I don't blame the OP here.

So pay by debit card instead.

I'm confused as to why you'd clearly want to pay £94.50 for 6 months?

I had the same choice recently and though £15.75 pcm is easier as you don't have to sump up ~£100 or more in one go.

one off payment gets you 6 months VED and costs £94.50
6 monthly VED payments of £15.75 = 15.75 x 6 = £94.50

You pay £9 more per year for paying annual tax by Direct Debit, but that works out at 75p per month.

Not sure why a payment card costs more (perhaps processing fees?), but the 6 months option for payment card is the only 'stupid' one, IMO

If you pay "one off" by card, it will cost £4.50 more than setting up DD for the 6 month fee.

Well... Clearly, it's all paid off in one go... Always nice to know something has been paid for straightaway!

I've always taxed for 6 months- so for me it's all paid off!

Just renewed my car tax, a bit hacked off that I can't make a one time payment with my card. I refuse to set up a DD with them so they can help themselves annually and if I object I have the hassle of having to cancel it. I did the phone in method instead, which ridiculously takes 5 minutes at 10p a minute!

Why can't you pay by credit or debit cars as before for the one of payment. It's not like the government have the best record at keeping our details safe! I don't feel comfortable giving all my bank details to anyone and I'm annoyed that we are almost forced into this option and auto renewal.

Also, having to pay twice for tax after buying a bike for my Godson with 11 months tax on it when I have the paper disc in my hand is ludicrous too!

Hey ho, it's only double taxation, you'd think we'd be used to that!

You can pay by card, unless I'm missing something?

It didn't allow me the option online yesterday. Wanted me to fill in bank account number, sort code etc!
