Hi Guys

Just renewing my insurance and the my car has keyless entry etc so loosing a key could be expensive. If I were to claim for a lost key would this affect my insurance at renewal time and be classed as a claim?

I suppose its similar with windscreen cover also?

Thanks

If they pay you money, it's claim. Lost keys may be a separate cover and may not be standard on your policy; check. How much they pay out depends on whether they're just replacing the key, or if you/they are paranoid someone will find/have the key, hunt down your car and take it so they replace both keys and get the whole thing recoded (or new ECU, or whatever is involved).

Windscreen claims need to be declared, but don't usually affect NCB.

As above, it does count as a claim so you do need to declare, but depending on your policy wording, it may not affect your NCD.

Zenith - " Cover yourself against loss or theft of keys up to £1,000 towards replacement keys and locksmith charges. Your policy excess will not apply and your no claims discount will not be affected."

Some insurers seem to have it as a standalone product, others look like it's tied in and make no specific promises that it won't affect NCD, so really you need to check with your insurer.
