Good work Haymarket, after a few months of it being like this the adverts have finally killed the main site for me. Just can't be arsed with it. How this can be regarded as a decent user experience is beyond me.

And as soon as sites start trying to charge, everyone will just bugger off somewhere else.

Would anyone pay a subscription to access PH? As much as read and contribute to PH, I wouldn't pay for it. After all, most of the content, for me anyways, comes from the members, not the site itself.

I wouldn't pay, the forums can be good but some are dominated by certain characters who just tediously bleat on about the same things (NP&E for example), why would anyone pay for that?

Adblocker on iPad means installing a third party browser which I'd have to pay for. bks to that.

I don't mind a bit of advertising, I've been known to even click on the occasional advert, but the main site is just mental.

I can't imagine those pages have been any where near a designer earning enough to afford such a device!

Duplicate ads also. If it's already on the page and I'm not interested then why on earth would I be interested when I look just one inch below it.

On iPad also so no option to block them with Safari.

Not wishing to be excessively cynical, but I imagine the techies at PH towers are at the behest of the larger business, and as long as the advertising revenue is increasing without visitor numbers dropping too sharply then the business will be happy.

I don't know how PH is doing, maybe overall visitor numbers are healthy/growing and I'm completely wrong but these stats don't look especially pretty - albeit they're not an accurate reflection of actual site traffic.

I completely agree, the volume and intrusiveness of the adds are an utter pain in the arse that make it virtually unusable and certainly not enjoyable

Is there a recommended free adblocker for IE? I prefer it for some reason I can't fathom to Chrome. I'm a bit hesitant since some of the advertised one in case they contain some malware.

Yes you can install other browsers on iPad but they're a bit slower than Safari and you can't use plug-ins. There are browsers which have ad-block built in but they're not free and I'm wary of them to be honest - seems like an ideal way to do some crafty logging.

AdBlock Plus seems to be the most popular choice for IE based on downloads from CNET.
