Having just written off my 1972 Mercedes 350SL on a very wet christmas eve I'm in the market for a 'new' car. I have been searching for a late 70s Ferrari 308 GT4 but by accident came across a 'modern' alternative - the 3.2l V8 biturbo Maserati Quattroporte. I'm used to high costs of ownership etc - just wondered if anyone could offer advice on the Maser. Thanks.

The question is, which one?

I know a bit about the 308, but nothing about the Quattroporte Biturbo. My guess is that you'd be in for a load of expense with either. Same with the ultra desirable Ferrari 365 GT4 (two plus two).

Older Mercs are surely a better bet?

thanks for that link. the quattroporte iv isnt on that page however. The expense I dont mind as there is little if no depreciation on a classic car - gt4s are increasing in value as we speak - especially if, like me you dont want a red one! Old mercs are great - just not sporty enough! had enough of the auto 'point and shoot' - they dont like bends either s. i used to have a 1996 4.5 TVR cerbera, so may always be searching for similar performance....
