As today's news reports (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30175708 ) that the Argentinian ambassador is upping the level of complaint about the recent Top Gear trip to Argentina, does anyone know how to check the history of a numberplate? ie was H982 FKL registered to the Porsche that Clarkson drove, or was it not the coincidence that Top Gear and the BBC are claiming?

Again because the question's been answered (in which case, apologies, I missed the answer) or again because the Argentinians are still going on about it (the week after they announce that their public transport has to carry slogans proclaiming that the Falklands are Argentinian?

I'd like to up my level of complaint to Argentina about all the unnecessary deaths, injuries and ongoing suffering their illegal invasion of the Falklands caused.

They invaded our country, and then they get all upset that someone on the telly has a slightly off number plate (if you squint a bit), even though its the orignal plate on the car.

I was serving in the RN in 1982 so the Argies can kiss my hairy balls.

I was talking to a dealer about this when I bough a Car off them, they did just that, HPI'd the 928, the number pate had not been changed in the Cars life. So either they deliberately tried to find that number plate and it, by chance, happened to be attached to a Car suitable for their purpose. Or it was a genuine coincidence, which do you thinks most likely?.

Thanks for that - a straight answer! Given the odds, I go with coincidence, albeit in hindsight an unfortunate one.

And yes, I'm with the other posters regarding the nationality of the Falkland Islands - after all, it is what the population of the islands has repeatedly chosen when asked.

I think the idea of the trip/episode/test was cooked up AFTER the reg plate was seen on a car for sale and bought by the Top Gear production team. Even so, its a pathetic reaction.

And as all the Argies speak English they would immediately understand the significance too!

sounds like more sabre rattling nonsense to be honest,

is there elections coming up in Argentina or as their economy tanked significantly yet again?

maybe we can start a petition to have the government build a 300ft statue of a hand raising the middle finger toward Argentina off the coast of New Island?

Not really. Spanish is the native tongue of Argentina and their name for the Falkland Islands is Islas Malvinas. Zero transference of any potential for offence from a random collection of letters on a number plate. Unless specifically searched for.

It's got nothing to do with the plate, but everything to do with diverting attention away from how everything is tits up in Argentina.
