Ever feel like age is turning you into a wimp? I used to drive a 2CV through the winter with nary a qualm, even though I didn't dare activate the 'heater' (i.e. open the flap that ducted cooling air from the engine into the cabin) as the exhaust manifolds were leaking and I'd gas myself. Nowadays, however, I find that the one thing that is really ruining my life to the point of existential despair is.... chilly hands. First world problems, I know.

So, the question is - what's the cheapest way into a car with a heated steering wheel? Budget would be £4k tops. Other criteria - non-ruinous mpg (forty mile daily commute); must look better than a SsangYong Rodius; brisk-ish would be nice.

May be Mission Impossible, but I have faith in the PH Massive to deliver biggrin

A pair of gloves can be got from a few quid maybe less.

True, true - gloves could be an option, but surely a 'what car' is far more exciting? Besides, driving in gloves always makes me feel a tad 'Alan Partridge'.

A lot of old 3/5 series had it as a winter pack option.

I had a 5 series with heated front seats. The additional option which was added by the original buyer was the winter pack which included:

Heated rear seats
Quick clear screen
Heated wheel

Maybe worth a hunt in the classifieds for some BMW-ness

For decades the Scandinavians have managed by pointing the heater vents nearest the wheel at their hands and / or gloves. The first option is free, the second is a bit cheaper than 4k.

I also hate having cold hands when driving (or in general). I ended up buying a nice pair of black Seal Skins gloves for winter. They are water proof to an extent, quite warm, but most importantly, they have leather on the palm and aren't massively bulky, so I can maintain a degree of dexterity. Means on cold mornings I can just get in the car wearing them and drive off and keep them on until the car has warmed up.
