If Top Gear cost the BBC 10p a year to run it would still be a complete waste of money. Frankly I'd rather watch Strictly Come Dancing (shudder).

However, it doesn't.

Maybe the Daily Mail should also do a piece on James Martin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Martin_%28chef%... . I am sure TopGear runs at a considerable profit for the BBC no matter what they pay those 3.

It's good entertainment but I get the impression over the past few series that they're quickly running out of ideas. Generally I find Fifth gear to have a better mix of factual versus entertainment features, and I bet they only have a fraction of the budget to play with.

I would iamgine the show is fairly profitable, so I'd say it's worth it.

I do watch Top Gear, but view it as an entertainment show , the fact it has cars in seems to be a secondary concern the the creators these days.

The BBC turns a very healthy profit from syndication and merchandising rights for Top Gear. If they cancelled TG the licence fee would increase.

That is also the most inaccurate article in the history of journalism. [Clarkson voice]Ever[/Clarkson voice]

I dislike Top Gear for what it has become, basically a comedy series and a bad one at that. When the wife and Mother in law enjoy watching it then I'm afraid it's time to pull the plug on it! frown

All the cool kids on PH are currently hating on Top Gear, because they know far more about cars and stuff.

Top Gear stopped being a factual car show years ago and is purely entertainment now. But it's the best entertainment on TV, and miles better than anything else the BBC makes!

With an average viewing of 5.6m per show plus winning BBC2 ratings awards I'm pretty sure....
Can't be that bad obviously.

I believe that non car orientated people watch top gear as opposed to 5th gear.
It's entertaining to watch. Look up the early episodes of topgear (90s) yes they are factual but could you really see those reviews an test drives attracting te attention of joe blogs down te road ?

Entertainment with some factual matter mixed in creates a better programme.

IMO I love it and find it fun and factual (to an extent)

The article is Abysmal, they've just Googled half of it. Clarkson hasn't had the Ford GT for years!

Everytime its hown on Dave, the three get appearance money.

The BBC make a fortune selling it round the world.
Thats why they bought jc's share back for 12 mill.

Personally, its a laugh.
Thats all it is.
And all its meant to be.

Utter wealth hating twaddle, quite aside from whether you like Top Gear or not, what anybody spends their money on is not really any of our business, much less to be made into some kind of attempt at sensationalist "journalism".

The DM get money from advertisers everytime you click on that link, so
I follow the simple rule that they create these articles just to create money, they know they are unlikely to be sued so they push the boundaries of contoversy. I decide not to listen to them or fund their nonsense..... the fact is that Top Gear is probably the BBC's most profitable program.

I've never known any publication, or indeed any person, to be as obsessed with how much other people make and what everything costs as the Daily Mail. It really is every boring, obnoxious, pompous, opinionated, poorly educated, ignorant, bigoted, petty, jealous and ignorant tt you've ever had to suffer rolled into one website.

I get the impression it's read almost exclusively by low to middle achievers who want to look jealously on at what others have and find a 3rd party to blame for them not having the same.

+1. The Daily Mail is utterly unbearable. Hateful, poisonous nonsense that makes this country an unpleasant place in which to aspire to any kind of success. Must better to a miserable middle-earner who can sneer at the poor and the rich alike while contributing almost bugger all.

You need to widen your outlook.

It's ste, or to paraphrase the mawkish mong with the ste haircut, it's 'cock'. Makes me shudder every time I hear it say that. Utter turd of a man.

At least Clarkson remains consistent and although he isn't for me I have a lot of respect for what he's achieved.

I enjoy Top Gear, can't stand the Daily Wail (Useless, over the top non-journalism) and have enjoyed Clarksons rants/political incorrectness/Vauxhall reviews since the PC days. TG Vietnam, the uncut BBC version was stunning and who doesn't want to upset the Argies?

It must make the BBC a bloody fortune.

Just my personal opinion.
