I have a B6 2007 2.0tdi passat and a couple of days ago when I started the car the two cooling fans came on and stay on all the time, the turbo is also whining. The turbo obviously needs replacing now but why are the cooling fans staying on even though I just started the cold and the engine is cold?.

Is your AC on? Tried turning it off and seeing what the fan does?

If the turbo is going to the fan might be trying to cool the charge to the engine if its above normal range.

AC is off but both the fans still continue to spin even when I start the car in the morning when the engine is cold.
I have no clue what's causing the fans to continually keep running.

Need to get the turbo repaired, anyone know any good trustable garages in Birmingham?

I believe these are ECU controled as opposed to the earlyer sensor and relay type, the switching relays are in the smaller of the 2 fans and doesn't come seperate IIRC?
