Which used 4x4 under 5K? Subaru legacy?
Discussion
Hi all,
Have stalked these forums over the years but never registered till now! Looking to replace my Focus 1.8tdci as its coming to the end of its life @ 200k miles. Since i'm in the countryside...ish i'm looking ideally for 4x4 options which have boot space, this seems to rule out most SUV/ pickup types and lean towards 4wd estates.
Have been taken by the Subaru Legacy/ Outback and currently budget wise seems to be around a: 2005 reg, 85K miles, 2.0r. Assuming all versions of the legacy's are AWD?
There seems to be pretty good reviews, although not turbo im assuming the 160bhp will result in a noticeable difference to my existing car? Although 0-6 times look fairly similar...
Anyway just wondering if anyone has any strong opinions why not to go for this car!!? Or indeed an alternative with boots space and 4wd in the price bracket?Any big problems with legacy's around this mileage, what should have been/ will need to be soon replaced?
Cheers!

The main difference will be mpg! Your Focus is a pretty frugal car, Subarus aren't renowned for their economy - for a 2.0 petrol I think they're quite bad - think 30 mpg tops.
I'm sure an owner will be along shortly to confirm or deny this!
But yes, all of them are 4x4. Allegedly great cars, pretty bomb proof, an actual working usable 4x4 drivetrain, and more rugged than a rugged thing.
I don't think your can go far wrong with that choice.

mpg wise, yep think will have to accept its going to be worse than the focus! Although diesel seems to get ever more expensive compared to petrol so perhaps the saving not quite as good as once was?
Any particular reason for the XT? Had also looked at foresters bu the earlier regs body shapes put me off
