It's appears to me that the route to take when purchasing SLR equipment is to buy the body in the UK (for warranty purposes) and to then purchase any peripherals from abroad in order to take advantage of cheaper prices etc.

eBay appears to be the best way to go about this, and so I was wondering if anybody had any eBay seller recommendations?

For example:

Seller 'flashman852' (http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=flashman852&iid=3862367237&frm=284) - compact flash memory cards.

Personally speaking I'm looking for those who sell lenses suitable for my 20D so any recommendations would be great

not a fan of ebay.

have a look here www.17photo.com/support.asp

not used them yet, looking to get a couple of lenses before my hols in May. Buying from 17photo means you get proper credit card protection should things go pear shaped, unlike ebay

That's an interesting divide I think, and one which I tend to support. I bought my D70 body in the UK: I just didn't fancy importing something that complex from the othe side of the world. However I have since added the following from eBay:

Micro Nikkor 60mm (used, mint, private seller in the US)
Speedlight SB800 (new, power seller in HK)
Batteries & charger for above (new, recommendation from PH )
Gadget bag to put them all in (new)
UV and polarising filters (new)

I also used eBay to sell my F70, zoom wide-angle, three assorted teleconverters and an old standard lens.

No problems so far!

I did:
'Please note that we have a MINIMUM international shipping fee of $98.00 (except Canada)...Upon completion of your order online, please email or fax us a copy of both sides of your credit card, along with photo ID. We must receive your identification documents within 24 hours to avoid cancellation of your order.'

Giving CC details online is one thing, sending them pictures of it plus my mugshot is not. And $98? Bollox to that!

Digital rev in HK cocked mine up. Ive heard others have had problems with them too. It arrived ok, it was just sent by the wrong courier even though I had paid for the faster one and I didnt get refunded that amount and took way over a week instead of the promised couple of days. It wasnt the deliverers fault either as they didnt dispatch it for ages. They seem to be getting pretty careless.

Ive just bought a lens from ebay I've been looking for for 3 months. I wanted to buy from the UK but the prices are high, so I was looking at HK, to my suprise one day one turned up on buy it now in the UK brand new and at less than the HK price excluding P&P! So Ive saved 300 quid on UK and 100 quid on HK prices.

It pays to be patient and scout around I think. I hope this helps.

Doesn't this mean the item to be shipped must be more than 98USD in value...? If not, then avoid I think.

The SB800 came from 'speedlevin': £182 inc shipping and no taxes. Unfortunately they only take TT or Moneybookers (like PayPal but different) so I had to open a new account specially, but it was worth it in the end.
