One of my cars was written off (luckily it wasnt the Porsche!) and the insurance company made me an offer on the car. They said they referred to the Glasses Guide for this and refer to the "Dealer Retail Price". I obtained a copy for myself online and saw the price was about £300 higher than what they were offering... when i questioned them about it they said its because they refer to a "Dealer Retail TRANSACTED price" which is lower (but this transacted price is not shown on my report as its only shown on theirs).... does this sound right? Any thoughts welcome... thanks

Sounds right to me, they will be using the traders Glass's Guide and not a consumer version.

For clarity nip to a local dealer who has a Glass's Guide and check.

When I had a car valued for probate recently, Glass's Guide was online at the garage I used. Apropos nothing, admittedly, but it was a surprise to me...

What's your policy excess? Had that been taken into account?

The excess would be deducted from their lower amount... so the excess wasnt taken into account and can be ignored in this situation... i would happily accept their lower offer as long as i can see the "transacted" figure in black and white for myself...

Looking at Autotrader etc, can you reasonably replace your car, with a similar one, for what they are offering?

ive looked at comparibles... strong evidence to suggest my car is worth more than what they are offering... naturally they find one example to suggest otherwise... Jag "sport premiums" are a bit hard to come by...
