Why would you paint large parts of a car with a rattle can? and would you not see the colours difference with the 2nd can when you started using it?
1st image used is classic local paper stuff. Person holds object while looking grumpy and pointing.
Even if Halfords did sell the wrong paint, should they have to pay for a respray when the owners where happy with a diy rattle can job in the first place?

I worked for Halfords for four years. It was always policy to ensure the customer knew the match was not guaranteed and was simply as close as possible from the data, and that you must try it somewhere inconspicuous first. I would remind every customer to test the paint before using it on external panels.
From this story, the manager took the usual stance of trying to keep the customer as happy as possible, being prepared to take a hit to do so, but the legal team decided there was no need as there's absolutely no liability.
She actually says they did test the match first. My arse.
That being said, any remotely experienced member of staff would have known from the constituent colours what sort of paint they were going to end up with, and if it didn't look like a usual colour for that make and model, it would have been sensible to ask.
In fact, now I think about it, the only way you'd end up painting so much of the car with such a clearly wrong colour is if you wanted to wreck it thoroughly enough that it needed respraying to fix it, presumably in your tiny mind at Halfords' expense. Nice way to get free bodyshop work.

Normally I am one to say "If you ask a professional they should do the job right" when people try and defend cock ups by parts suppliers and garages saying "You should check", but in the case of paint, I have no sympathy. You should always check, because paint colour can change between two batches even with the right code. Just one of the reasons a rattle can is the inappropriate tool for this job in the first place, as you can't mix two rattle cans together to get an even colour.
I'm also wondering why they want a professional re-spray rather than some replacement paint. They were happy to re-paint the car in the first place, so why not again?

I did post this as I felt it might be a scam.
They picked on the wrong firm with Halfords then - I got absolutely nowhere when a TomTom bought there failed at just over a year old. They even told me in writing that I had no legal rights in the matter - misleading people about their consumer rights is a criminal offence in itself.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

king can the right colour, and they'd be in the same position. Let them rattle can away to their heart's content. Jesus wept.
