E-type wheels

Need some new wheels for my series I FHC. I think Mr Coco could do with a good Christmas present and although my bank balance won't be grateful of the hammering, I know the current ones are shot.

I will be picking the brains of a friend who restores and runs classic racers for a living but I need an idea of what the possibities are and how much they are going to cost me first (I assume 1200-2000).

Can anyone help me out?

I have a set of 4 original knock on Minilite wheels that will suit an E-type .

Have you poked around on the http://www.mws.co.uk website, you should be able to get a good idea of what they'll cost from there.

If your looking for wires I presume MWS are very good I ordered a set of 5 Cobra cobra offset wheels for my 69 Tuscan and fitted the 205/70 Blockley tyres http://www.blockleytyre.com/as some have fitted on e types with the wheels in stainless rather than chrome and the tyres there was not much change out of 3k but I ordered through the TR centre in Cheswick as they often do deals that MWS cant offer as they tend not to try and compete with there agents worth contacting them

I can recommend MWS they have been very reliable ,around £370 a corner .

Other options SNG BARRETT do Dayton wires at £ 270

or other More expensive Borrani at £900.


out of interest have you considered slightly wider 6J wheels , I upgraded to 6J because i wanted to fill the arches , we have similar E types ,

heres mine on 6J'S

Keep to the "skinny" standard wheels, cant beat the look of them in my opinion.
Fat wheels look far to "modern"

Tend to agree there. Here's a photo of my car with her new wheels:-

What you might notice is that they aren't chrome but painted, and are just £177 each. Personally, I think that they are more original (remember they were standard and chromes optional), considerably cheaper, easier to clean and a lot stronger than chromed.

I agree with keeping to the standard size wheels. They just look right and in correct proportion IMHO.

If you have had experience of both you'll see just how much easier it is to keep painted wires clean. Far less polishing needed. And chroming weakens the spokes, although that today I guess no longer applies since the spokes are stainless.
