Stick with your current insurance for the following reasons:

1. Quit your insurance 6months early and you get £500 back (rough figures)
2. Continue with your insurance for 6 months on your new car and you get £200 back. So the 6 months insurance on your new car has cost you £300(roughly)
3. The alternative insurance company want to charge you £880 a year or £440 for 6 months so your previous insurance company is giving you a better deal.

The way I see it is one option will leaving you paying

£990.20 to be insured from 28/5/14 to 28/5/15

or

£1567.97 to be insured from 28/5/14 to 1/12/15

First one essentially cost you £82.50/month
Second one £82.50/month

...

I would keep the current policy and hope that at renewal time you can get a better deal on the new car. Also a renewal in May is better than in December in my opinion, Christmas and all that.

Someone want to check my method?

4. You'll get a years no claims when your policy completes in 6 months so the renewal then will be cheaper (assuming you haven't claimed).

True, didn't think of that either.

Averaging between old more powerful car and new car is not the right way to do this.
