This not a failure mode I've read about before, any ideas what could cause this?

Is this a hint:

"right bank exhaust temp
left bank exhaust temp
The exhaust temp gauges are a must for the Cerbera as they tend to burn the right lamba out and it gives an early warning of that."

More of a hint is in the 1st video link he put up on the ad.
After constantly blipping the engine when it idles the oil light starts flickering.

Never liked matt paint ,especially on a Cerbera, just degrades it.

How does he know it has a crank float?

If he's taken the bottom of the engine apart and plastigauged it you would have thought he'd have sorted it.

If he's tried to lever the crank wheel up and down and rekons theres 1/8" travel then I have my doubts, and if believes that then he's a brave man to run the engine..

The engine has a regular tick which sounds more like bottom end than top end, but then a lot of Cerb engines had/have that.

The oil light on the dash is not normal

The owner of the car had posted a "Time to sell" post which got removed for obvious reasons.

He went into a bit of detail about the history and his engine woes but can't really remember what he said now other than that I clicked the link and saw the matt black paint.

If he's talking about crank end float I suspect he is moving the crank pulley forward and back with a dial gauge on it. If the thrust washers have worn or spun in the crankcase then the end float increases.
I measured mine when reassembling my ajp...

Controversially, I quite like the matt, if done well, on the Cerbera - makes them meaner.

The guy who did this had a red Sag that he painted Satin white.

As Cerberaherts says, he will be talking about horizontal movement, 1/8" is a massive amount for this. I have it checked annually in my 3200 as they were prone to this when new.
