Not currently being used to enforce NSL, they have however been reported to flash. no summons though.

They were going off like billio when I went round that stretch last Saturday. Only 7 days into my wait...

I noticed one just by the tunnel (can't remember the name of it) by the M11 junction. Odd looking camera, just to the side of the overhead signs, rather than three hidden behind. Things definitely flashed and at a lower speed than I thought. I was doing ~70, someone came past me doing probably about 80 and it went off at them.

Are you talking about cameras on the overhead gantry?

Eitherway it was total mess last weekend. I'm fairly confident it was a faulty camera given my experience.

Bell Common is the one. The cameras are mounted on the gantry, but off to the side. But not the normal set-of-three cameras that I see.

The ones I saw flashing were further round by the M40 junction were actually on the back of the gantry behind the speed sign. I thought they were like this the whole way round?

The whole 25 camera network is in the process of being activated, with new old style (one per lane) gatsos linked to variable speed limits popping up too. Tres annoying as the operators are usually 30 minutes behind the situations, especially at night.

'X' lane signs are (sensibly) being enforced too.

Be careful out there....!

I was flashed by one going anti-clockwise not far after the tunnel. I was doing about an indicated 80-ish. That was a few months ago. No speeding ticket. I'm certain they'll be issuing tickets soon enough. At least the road works have gone though!

Same here. Car in front of me was flashed when the VSL sign was active at 50. (Between Junction 21 heading towards dartford tunnel.) I might have been doing about 55 but in line with rest of traffic. I braked gently but I think I saw a flash from the left hand side behind me as i passed. Am hoping it was just testing as I can't see them ticketing so many people. It would have been every 2nd car almost. I am 6 days into my 14 day wait and hoping for the best as i have some points already frown - Sad thing is I have really been keeping an eye on speed since previous points - just hoping I am worrying over nothing..

I'm using this stretch on a daily basis and have been for the past 4 years. I have found that the ones from junction 23-25 are much more tolerant to speeding over NSL, but the ones from 25-27 are much less tolerant. I'm going through the ones from 25-27 at 70 and people are going past me at some speed and not getting flashed, then when we get to the next camera the same situation occurs and people do get flashed. In summary I think to be safe you should stick to the speed limit going through them.

Why? when the Police have stated that they are not being used for imposing the NSL limit, and if they do want to start ticketing they would have to tell us they are doing so.

As you were.

Ah so I may not be out of the woods just yet as the VSL was up at 50. Any idea on the degree of leeway?

I'd rather not the hassle of trying to wriggle out of 3 points a fine and insurance increase for a number of years + go through a few you could be on 12 points in a day ...

Why? To be safe, from getting 3 points.

"The Redflex HADECS is a gantry mounted digital speed camera that is being deployed on our motorways where variable speed limits are operated. A single camera is able to monitor up-to five active lanes of traffic including those sections of motorway where a hard shoulder can also be used as a live lane.

Dual radars are used to measure speed and data is transmitted digitally. These rear facing cameras are far more discrete than we are used to, looking more like a CCTV installation than a traditional speed camera.

We've already had reports that these cameras, installed between junctions 5 and 6 on the M25 are now flashing away and capturing hundreds of motorists unaware."

Bikers beware!

With all due respect the ones being caught unaware must be special. There's bloody great gantries with bloody great illuminated signs stating a set limit, there's 10%+2mph tolerance & there's bloody great signs informing of cameras! I don't think it would be possible to give any more warning so the hundreds of motorists that are caught unaware must be bloody thick.

Sure, don't let the facts influence your decision.
