My gawd is that awesome!

"During five days of racing [Wednesday through Sunday] including six different classes of aircraft, racers reach speeds of over 500 mph - by far the fastest-moving machines in motorsports!"

The sight and sound must be impressive . . anyone was there?

Watch the closed holes in the Mustangs wing . . .

Expensive to watch?

A friend told me you can fly in a twoseater-Spitfire for an hour for 450 euros. Somewhere in the UK . . .

Of the ex-WWII vintage machinery, Lyle Shelton's Grumman Bearcat "Rare Bear" holds the official closed course World Speed Record (528.3 mph).

Guess who was booked to go out on 13th september `01? Meeting was cancelled, but now saving up for the next visit to them and Edwards AFB. Incidently, for any other plane enthusiasts out there, Edwards is now closed to non - US nationals except for the annual openday/airshow. AFAIK Davis Monthan(sp) in Arizona (aka the graveyard) is still OK though.

Was there (Reno) for the crash of this:

More info here:
www.aafo.com/racing/2001/rb51/

At one time the world record holder at a FRACTION LESS than 500 mph!

When the plane went down, it was ugly to see. With countra-rotating props, it had the glide ratio of a brick. The pilot had no chance to get to the runway and dropped into the scrub brush, sand/rocks of the high desert.

The pilot survived.

Sorry, did not include the date. '79 it was. Even worse, if possible, in person. Hinton was seriously injured, and was at the races after that, but was not quite the same.
