Another thread regarding a Tudor Pelagos I'm afraid. I have always loved the look of them and after recently trying one on I decided I want to buy one. However, there is currently a nearly new Omega Seamaster 2123 Black Ceramic for sale on TZ that has caught my attention, now I am torn between the 2. Do I go ahead and buy the Omega or hang on and wait and a Pelagos to come up for sale at the 2k mark?

Anybody had/have both and wish to share their experience?

Not tried the Tudor yet but the ceramic Seamaster is a very nice thing that looks and feels great.

The general rule of thumb in such situations is to wait for what you really want, you shouldn't have to wait too long for another Pelagos to pop up though not at the Black Friday price of recent one.

I think you may be right Cardshark. Out of curiosity, how well do the Ceramic seamasters hold their value?

I don't really follow the prices of the more recent Omega divers however I'd guess that the Pelagos holds its value better than the ceramic Seamasters, don't quote me on it though!

I've had both. And no longer have either!

The Omega is nicely made. Personally, I think the build quality is a bit better than the Tudor. The problem, as always for me with modern Omegas, was trying to get a decent fit on the bracelet. It was either too tight or too loose, and neither option was good for me, as I can't abide a tight bracelet, and, with a heavy watch and bracelet combo, too loose doesn't work for me either.

The Pelagos is nice enough. It just didn't float my boat, and I got shot of it after a couple of months. ISTR I bought it and sold it at around the £2,300 mark, but that said, there weren't a lot of them around at the time, so those prices reflected the novelty value. It's worth trying one on if you can, as it wears pretty big, and although the watch head is titanium, with the bracelet it is quite heavy.

Thanks for your opinions. If you had to have one of the 2 again, and they cost around the same amount, which would you choose?

I have to admit, your wrist shots actually sway me towards to Seamaster. The Tudor looks a bit "plain-jane", however, i think that is more down to your pictures. I have tried the Pelagos on, although not on an adjusted bracelet.

Hmmm...I'm really unsure what to go for now. I have a £2k budget and there is a nearly new Seamaster currently for sale at that price. I do need to take into consideration resale value & desirability, just incase i need to raise some funds. I don't want to be stuck with a watch that's difficult to sell or I'll take a scalping on.

Probably the Omega, but not to wear on a bracelet. But that's just me. If they did the Omega with a matt dial, i might have been persuaded to keep it.

As far as a scalping goes, and to state the bleeding obvious, it depends what price you buy at. I lost a bit more money on the Omega than I did on the Pelagos. But, I should have been a bit more savvy when I bought the Omega. (And paid less).

I believe you can get half links for the omega bracelet now.

All the (recent) Omegas I've had have a half link in the bracelet. But even with the half link, I still can't get a good (read comfortable) fit.

Maybe I'm one of the few for whom a standard omega bracelet doesn't really work. I think at the last count I had five, and I wear them all on straps, either rubber or leather depending on the type of watch.

I've had both, and while the tudor is a lovely thing I couldn't get on with the bracelet. The omega is just the most comfortable watch I've ever had and although it's a heavy watch I hardly ever really notice it on my wrist.

The omega would be my choice.

Well I went for neither of the options I was looking at. I ended up looking at the red Black Bay and thought I think its a gorgeous watch. After spending hours looking at them online and reading online reviews - I bought one :-) Looking forward to receiving it and it will keep good company with my Tudor Chrono in the watch box.
