Bargain 172....

Bumped into a mate while collecting a curry(!) and he mentioned someone has dented the drivers door if his Clio 172 and taken the mirror off. He wanted rid if it and mentions a figure of £400. Rude not to look. Went round this morning, had a test drive, indeed it does need a drivers door and mirror, the rest should polish up lovely. Sounds like there is a noisy rear wheel bearing, but importantly he is unsure when it last had a cambelt / dephaser. 109,000 miles. To be honest I looked in the classifieds and if you weigh up £600 for a cambelt, dephaser, and new door I could buy one all done for the same money. So I declined, and he said he 'd take £200 as he needs the room... SOLD!!!!! :-)
In 2013 it had a new gearbox and a Stainless exhaust, that's all I know about it, but all 172 horses seem present and correct and it drives lovely. Oooooooosh!!!!

Rear bearings are part of the discs on these so a piece of piss to change them yourself.

I am on the lookout for a blue door and mirror on eBay, getting those for £50 would really be taking the pi$$!!!! :-)

Cracking buy.......at that money though I'd keep an eye out for the door and mirror on Ebay but leave the cam belt and dephaser....worst case it snaps and you break it and get your money back, best case you keep it for as long as you want and enjoy motoring for pennies in a cracking little hot hatch.

I know this a particularly cheap one, and fair play to you for that, but I'm gonna look to pick up one of these for track days next year!

Absolutely fair play to you, amazing deal! Having just changed my rear discs this weekend (as said the bearing is part of the disc) make sure you have a large hammer available and you're not afraid to use it

Going to ring the eBay breaker tomorrow with a little shopping list of bits , I will be chuffed if I can keep it under £300 all in including repairs !!

Make sure you pop the spacer on the correct way before putting the rear disc back on.

It can sometimes get stuck to the old one when being removed.
