Looking to buy sonos soon. Have a spotify subscription and an av amp (yamaha v675) which is wifi contronable and has extra outputs. Obviously also have phones and a pc etc.
what else do I need if I were to get a pair or two of the sonos 1's or 3's? Are the play 3's worth the premium for use in small rooms?

whats the plan with the AV amp? - if you want to use sonos as a source you will need the Connect.

I personally don't rate the 1's or 3's and prefer the 5's. But others disagree -

You need to have one of the units wired to the router (although this may have changed as they were working on a wifi option) - I'm sure someone will say one way or another

I use 2 sonos connect boxes as sources in 2 AV amps (I had an old one hanging about). just plug in via the optical if you'd rather use your DAC on your amp or use the phono's like a CD player.

You'll be able to access them via the app on your devices.

Actually thinking of using the sonos's as recievers rather then sources. The av amp would be the source initially?

That's not how they work - there's no input on a Sonos (Apart from a Play 5 I think can take a line level input) They're designed to stream the music to your Amp via the Connect or to a Play 1,3 or 5.

Not sure that's right. I use the line input on my zp100 to route tv sound to the same speakers. Line in selected on Sonos menu
