Just dropped 9.5k on this but went out for Moon Watch.
Discussion
I went out for a Omega Moon Watch but when I held the IWC and that symmetrical pusher at 10 I could not resist. Bloody expensive, heavy, big at 46mm but traditional pilot watch look with spilt second complication. Did I make the wrong choice? I'm not sure but your thoughts would be helpful. I can take it back!

Impulse purchase of legendary proportions. Well done! Not sure why we needed the amount spent in the thread title – it reads to me as if you've been caught up in reading others' purchases and thought you'd join in, and now have a case of buyer's remorse.
IWC - £9.5K = need your head examined – there are far more deserving watches out there, although you'd have had to buy pre-owned or online rather than receive the instant gratification you got yesterday.
As Michael says above, which I echo, take it back, since it sounds you are more proud of spending 3 times what you went out to spend than what you actually bought itself.
I'm trying not to read into what's written, but that's how it comes across – sorry if I've got you wrong.

A split-second chrono is a great thing to have and I like some of the technical things IWC have done with their chronographs - the Doppelchrono and split minute Aquatimer particularly. I probably wouldn't have gone for this one though given the size and an accumulation of small things like the three-day window (or 'the altimeter look'); the guy that designed the IWC Doppelchrono set up on his own and has some properly interesting chronographs, (Habring) and even though I'm not struck enough on his designs either, it's half the price of the IWCs and technically much more interesting.
Forced to choose IWC I'd have opted for a s/h Doppelchrono from a generation or two ago - a tritium, domed 3711 particularly - more sober but better for it I think, half the price and something that would hold value very well too...
Good for you anyway if you like it, it's certainly not something you see everyday at least.

Thanks for comments. I not sure what to make of my decision. I like the split second feature and the traditional propeller hands. Looks like the old German pilot watches of WW2. The older versions are smaller, cheaper but the hands are not 'pilot watch' enough. To be honest I feel the IWC Big Pilot is probably a better watch but I feel I have a traditional looking pilot watch but with a complication. I have certainly not seen many compared to the ubiquitous Rolex Deep Sea of similar value. I'm reliably informed that the price is the traditional 50% plus mark up of the high end brands. If true this watch cost the retailer under £5000. Nice profit! What does a moon watch cost to make? Mass serial production watches must cost less and probably have mark up of 60% plus. I'm sure someone will have a better idea than myself.
Not my cup of tea at all (and I fly). Really not a fan of the fashion for oversized watches. 46mm is getting on for 2" and I reckon my bedside clock is no bigger than that! OK so if you want a huge watch for a bit of fun then fine, spend a hundred quid on one of those pocket watches adapted to go on a wrist strap but not £10k that. All IMO of course.

yes mark up is probably 100% + VAT so £1600 went to the Government. The watch probably cost the dealer £3950.00 + VAT and thats why buying a watch of this type 2-3 years old is such good value. If you buy a watch of this type then thats the deal. I would also agree with RichB 46mm is too big and probably a passing fashion. I still think if you can, you should take it back if you have any doubts. If not then good luck to you and enjoy your purchasemichael gould said:

Yeah. I'm wearing a 47mm Panerai that's been a passing fashion since 1935.Riff Raff said:
