Heater blower fan packed in on 2006 Defender, any ideas...
Discussion
The heater blower fan on my 56 plate td5 Defender stopped working at the weekend... it worked fine Saturday and then did not work at all on Sunday.
I have not had chance to do any diagnosis as of yet but a quick google seems to imply it can be a range of problems, all increasingly expensive...
Not sure if this is related or just another "feature" but when i indicate left, the blinker occasionally goes doolally and the trailer warning light illuminates on the dash. It is an intermittent fault and turning the indicator off and on again usually clears it.
Any thoughts appreciated.....

First two (easy) things to check would be fuse and then switch. Older Defenders do pop fuses generally and the switch on mine went through a phase of working when the handle was forced and held downwards before I replaced it.
Wonky indicators happens on mine too on occasion, I assume it's damp behind dash/dodgy earth somewhere/something needs hitting with a hammer

I had some weird goings-on with the rear wash-wipe on mine, coupled with subsequent alarm siren problems.I have not had chance to do any diagnosis as of yet but a quick google seems to imply it can be a range of problems, all increasingly expensive...

Turned out to be a chafed headlight wire of all things.
Yours is no doubt something else entirely, point being the ECU side of a Td5 can be very delicate and totally random.
Turns out it was the fuse in the end so more straightforward than feared...
Pretty sure the fuse was blown by my plug in satnav as the cigar lighter had also packed up and apparently they are on the same fuse. Now that I have put 2 and 2 together, I realise that the same satnav has also blown the fuse on the cigar lighter in my old Merc ML... It is a garmin, about 6 years old but I replaced the power cable about 2 years ago as the original had broken. I bought a new one off amazon for about £3 which may have been a mistake, with hindsight (although it has worked fine until now...)
