My brother has a new Elise 111R and is looking to trackday it. Thing is he thinks the brakes are a bit naff so was asking me about upgrading them. Any of you lot done or advise any particular products as good brakes for fast road and track use.
Another thing he was complaining about was that they go rusty too quickly and for a fair few miles they are really useless so was wondering if there were higher performance kits that dont go off so quick. any help would be well apreciated thanks.

the only thing you can do really is braided hoses (better feel on track) and decent pads - Pagid RS4-2 or RS-14 are the way to go...the rust thing is normal....a few hard stops from 70mph every day sorts that out

..every morning about 6.30 usually manage 2 or 3 stops from 30mph to clear the rust...then a couple from 60 or 70 to get biting again...and even some from 100-120mph....depends how busy the M25 is really !...they do go off quick though if its stood for a day or so...or just used for motorway work all week...its a car that definately benefits from a good ragging as often as possible

I drove a VX220 and hated the brakes...ABS and PAS just not needed....then the same in a 111R apart from the ABS comes in later.

Normal Elise (unassisted, no ABS) brakes are great if you have decent pads n disks and are well practised in using them.

So you only have to replace everything but the calipers!

I was on a 1st lotus day with a couple of vx220s and a 111R - it was a bit slippy and the 111R could pull up a car length short of VX with no problem, 2 car lengths if the VX guys put their abs fuses back in. The 4 channel abs system is awesome.

The 111R brakes are very good, just the pedal feel is crap if you have come from a standard S1 or S2. You can adjust the pedal feel though and having done so its had a marked improvement on mine.

Go to the gym!!!

Brakes need warming up. the "poor" performance is cold brakes - push harder.

i love the fact my foot is sore after a good session of driving....call it masochism if you want, but you are in a hardcore car!!!

enjoy!

still think the standard S2 brakes are bloody awful - utterly ragged or not. I made sure I abused mine to the point of proper heat on every journey but still found they lost heat so fast that they also lost all feel and were extremely prone to locking up (from pretty much any speed).

Not a problem on track where they were wonderful, but really didnt like em on the road. replaced with Pagids and they're so much better in both situations. but i think a lot of it is personal opinion!

Never played with pagids properly, but complete concur with your opinion of the standard system. People did originally manage to convince me it was just me, but in hindsight I think the brakes were just shit. Really prone to lockup even when being careful to apply them progressively (albeit still rapidly as is required with brakes!)...
