My headlights gave up the ghost and it was the block burnt out where it connects to the box terminals.
I had my auto electrician pal put me some extra wires in to reduce resistance and also create a better heat sink, going along my philosophy, "if it breaks improve it" smile

You do know the spec of the contacts in the plug are not capable of running the sort of current the headlights or fans consume, hence why they burn out. It's not the wire that's too thin, it's the contact of the plug. Either bigger plugs are needed or hard wire to the box, and put a better plug connector joint somewhere away from the box.

What are they specified to carry?

Usually stuff like this is a result of lack of use and moisture/corrosion

I agree, lack of a good connection i think is more of the problem?
Causing high resistances and heat, i could be wrong as i am no electronics engineer, but its got new connectors and freshly cleaned prongs on the box, plus water proof grease to try and inhibit moisture.
Its going to be part of its yearly off the road freshen up to keep this maintained correctly.

The fuel pump wiring was also a problem when i upgraded to the 044 pump, the wiring did actually cause a voltage drop, bypassing with a new thicker wire actually increased the revs of the pump, increasing fuel pressure immediately, but i did actually put a relay in the system here as i dont want to have a voltage drop, lean the engine of and melt it!
At least if the lights go out you should notice hehe

Nearly an hour home in solid traffic with dipped beam, plug was not even slightly warm to the touch.
