AFAIK all cars spec'd as RR from the factory had the octane switch.
Some cars had RR conversions - of those, some have the button and some don't.

My 4.5 R/R also has the Octane button on the dash. It was ordered from new. On the build sheet for my car, listed with the options it has 'Red Rose Engine £2,350.00'

I understood all factory built R/R cars to have the Octane button. Maybe those upgraded to RR spec afterwards just get the engine work?

I grabbed these details from another thread, HERE

Red Rose:
Raised Compression ratio (no figures stated)
3 angle valve seats
Re-worked and polished ports
Balanced combustion chambers
Optimised cam timing
Re-shimmed cam followers
Upgraded head gaskets
ECU EPROM chips (?)
ECU 95/97 octane switch

Suspect that the blog is incorrect as I believe all factory RR cars had the button (even though on some cars it actually doesnt do anything).
