There's an interesting car in the Netherlands, private sale and naturally owners speak perfect English and being Dutch will no doubt be honest and decent folk.

If I like it, turn up with cash, how does Dutch car purchase work? Is it "biro on form in drawing room" like here, or more complex?

I assume it'll be easy to import (plan to just drive it home) and obtain UK registration, with us still being EU'n'all?

Advice and experiences welcome!

When you buy a new car in the Netherlands, it will have a vehicle registration certificate (kentekenbewijs), consisting of Part 1 (deel I) and Part 2 (deel II). Part 1 includes technical information relating to the vehicle itself, such as brand, model and registration number, while Part 2 represents proof of ownership of the vehicle and consists of the name address of the current owner. Some older cars also have a Part 3 confirming proof of ownership prior to 1996. When buying a car it is important to ensure that the registration certificate is handed over and includes all relevant parts. Transfer of ownership is usually arranged by the dealer who sells the car or by the new owner by completing and submitting the relevant form at the post office.
Quite a bit of info here: http://www.expatfocus.com/expatriate-netherlands-h...

Not sure how registering the car here works though, and whether you need the car taxed as, from what I gather, their tax is quite a bit higher than ours.

Thanks.

Seems more complicated when considered...

- Purchase of car in Netherlands to ensure legitimate (Dutch HPI?)
- Arranging insurance for drive back to UK
- Applying for UK V5 / registration
