Some advice please

Sky HD box is in a custom cabinet with drop down panels. Ideally I would like to keep panels closed most of the time.

So can I buy a magic eye type device that plugs into the back of the Sky HD box to sit on the top of the cabinet?

I don't want a device designed to be used in another room sending signals over RF or similar. Just a simple 3 foot cable and an IR sensor, that will pick up all Sky+ functionality

Thanks

The same device will do the njob, just use no cable or a short length of cable to put the eye where you want it. It doesn't need to be plugged into a TV.

Depends on the age of the Sky box. If it is older, and has the powered RF2 output on it, then you just need

Newer boxes don't have the RF2 output so you also need

First one looks ideal as I want the Sky box to power it, not yet another plug required. My sky box is about 5 years old and Pace, will that have the powered RF2 output?

Almost certainly, yes. I think it's just the latest 2TB boxes that don't. See here for instructions to switch on the power to it - http://www.dusky-control.com/installer-menu.shtml

On the older boxes the RF2 power had to be turned on in the services menu. Otherwise you just got picture but no control

Ha. No, I didn't see the link posted above and gave redundant advice. In my defense, I am in a bar in the middle of no where Massachusettes US drinking Stella from unreasonably large glasses.

If you can stomach another power supply, the Keene system is expandable and non-specific so you can have other devices hidden away too. Not the cheapest option, but it works brilliantly and everything is out of sight (even the sensor, hidden underneath the units - but still receives very well)

i have one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-IR-HUB-Infrared...

works very well and plugs into the spare usb of the sky box, you can also use it to operate 2 other items, not just the sky box
