So, I'm planning to have an engine transplant, and then for that to be turbo'd mid next year. Trying to sort out the niggley bits now!
Which insurer do you go to for such modifications?

the usual suspects, Adrian Flux / Sky insurance... People rate A-plan but for me they've always been waaaaay over priced for the others.

Ones I've tried today (23, 1 year ncb, 5 years driving experience):

Comparison site quote coming up with Diamond (Bell, Elephant, Admiral Group) : - £959
Adrian Flux - Best quote, aim low and see what they can do, I'm young and reasonably inexperienced but managed to get a good quote with their underwriter MarketStudy.
Sky Insurance - Couldn't quote on my post code and ended the call, in stiff competition with Adrian Flux, similar underwriters (MarketStudy/Equity). It's a case of bouncing the quotes off each other.
Greenlight - Couldn't quote on my post code
Aplan - Couldn't quote on my post code
Rhclassic - no price could be achieved
Brentacre - £1090
Chris Knott - no quote based on less than 12 months experience in higher powered car
Chaucher Direct - no quote based on mods
Hearts - Adrian Flux sister company happy to quote me 3x Flux, once told the chap on the phone said that's okay as the money's still coming into the company.
Aviva - £1011
LV - £1300

Greenlight and Sky Insurance have been great for my modified car over the past few years.

Try Classicline. . Best premium for my modded yank, but Flux cheaper on the kit car...

Try Competition Car Insurance. They were 50% cheaper than the next best quote on my RX7, and I had 4 or 5 track days thrown in for free. They phone up to berate you if you don't use them too, which I find amusing.

As above try CCI. Currently with them for my heavily modified road legal track car. £350 with CCI verus £800 with Aplan plus trackday cover thrown in.

Keith Michaels...ask for Gary Moulson; great service and price. I run a highly modified impreza and mildly modified 182 and I've been with him for years smile

There can be big differences in service if you claim, which is always worth considering.

Flux for example completely ignored my requests to have a chat with the assessor, so that he wouldn't quote for new panels/respray, and would instead quote for me to replace second hand panels I'd source myself.

Led to the car being written off Cat C, which pretty much killed the car for me. Ended up selling it for parts.

APlan on the other hand were very good at understanding I'd pretty much built the car, and so would be happy to repair it to as before standard for a lot less than their panel garage...

perfect timing this thread! 21 with 1yr NCB and so far Sky have been the cheapest ... going to give green light a go now and see what they can do.

For little modifications (new barry backbox) my current insurer (Churchill) have no problem adding it onto the policy for free as long as it doesn't increase bhp.

23, 1 NCB, 5 year license holder.

If that's true then it's genius and should be encouraged. I need a job where I berate customers for not doing track days!
