Getting sound to amp from TV
Discussion
Hi,
Mate of mine has an Onyko TX-NR906 which as far as we can make out doesn't have ARC. It is connected via some kind of Matrix device to a Samsung Smart TV. All of the cables are CAT5e that gets converted into HDMI via a small box.
I'm trying to work out a way of getting sound from the TV to the amp ala ARC. There is no way of directly connecting the TV and amp with an optical cable or the like.
Is there such a device that I could plug into the amp that would receive sound wirelessly from the TV, that it would see as a receiver it could send sound to?
Apologies for the vagueness of the post. I've said to him that an ARC-enabled A/V receiver would probably fix his problems overnight, but in the short term he wants a quick fix.
TIA for any help

Thanks for input on this.
Seems like he's screwed.
TV is a Samsung F8000 series 65", but the optical out only carries 2.1 channel audio from any HDMI source, presumably this is because of HDCP/DRM restrictions (not every TV does it though).
ARC isn't possible because his Matrix doesn't support it over HD-BaseT.
5.1 sound apparently only works when the TV's own internal tuner is used (e.g. for On Demand stuff through the TV's own apps, etc)
