I went to top the Boxster up with oil yeasterday and I noticed around the edge of the filler cap and the funnel that pops up that there is a very small amount of cream looking oil. Is that correct or is it a sign that there is water in my oil?

It could be condensation mixing with oil, but I would always err on the side of caution. Oil is cheaper than bearings. When was it last changed and is it the decent stuff in there?

We collected the car at the begining of October and it has now done 4,000 miles. I have topped up with Mobil 1 of the correct grade.

IIRC you do have the balance of manufacturer's warranty, yes?

Let an OPC look at it. Could be condensation, could be worse. If its worse the sooner its looked at the better (cheaper/less time away).

Known as 'mayonnaise' -sign of short runs and condensation -take it for a good thrashing.

Although if you don't have the time or the inclination, I'm sure there are many volunteers on this forum who would be only too happy to help you out!!

Thanks to all those that have replied. Mayonaise is a perfect description although I have to say it doesnt really do short runs and has done 4K miles in 3 months.

I will admit that it has remained idle for nearly 2 weeks with the exception of a 250 mile run on Christmas Eve and an 80 mile run last Thursday.

I will call the nice chaps at Dic Lovett in Bristol tomorrow and see what they want me to do.
