I am looking to spend around £750 on a vinyl only system, it will be used mostly for classical/film music.

What would you recommend for this budget?

Don't know but I would buy second hand every time.

I have an Origin Live Aurora/Modified RB250/Ortofon Kontrapunkt a for which I paid in total no more than you're looking at spending. It's hard for me to recommend what I have (seriously) because I've never closely compared it to anything else, although it sounded reasonable to me (haven't listened to it for many years as it's hiding at my parents while I make where I live suitable for such things as record players).

A friend had a Shure V15 (Type III I think, VxMR or something it said on it) and it always sounded great. Quite tempted to pick one up when I get my hifi gear set up again.

For your budget you could get a blinding used system. I bought a rega planar 3 circa on eBay for 155 quid, a late audiolab 8000a for 172 quid delivered and some mordrant short ms 10i pearls for a hundred quid. To be honest I'm not sure how you'd better that for the money. I suppose you could upgrade the cartridge in the deck with the change.

Cheapest on ebay is £850, which blows the budget. I was never a fan of Linn, and the Sondek can be a bugger to set up and maintain. I'm with boy, that's a great starter system and you've a bit of cash for stands and stuff. A good cartridge and the Audiolab power amp, would be pretty cheap upgrades too.
