Hi - Does this spec sound ok for a factory built ultima? Will be used mostly on the road - with occasional track day madness.. Don't know much about building cars - just love driving them!

Factory built with:

CHASSIS PARTS:

Full RAC roll bar - how difficuly does this make it to get in and out?

Alloy double skin kit - no idea what this is?

Intrax shocks - how better/worse are these compared to the standard shocks?

Gas strut for rear canopy - worthwhile?

Rose-jointed suspension - apparantly needs maintenance quite often and not good for the road?

BODY PARTS:

GT Spec rear wing - need the rear wing right?

Electric door mirrors

Sealed side luggage containers OR luggage container covers?? - do i need both of these options?

Side window vents (anyone got electric windows working? :-)

BRAKES:

AP Racing brakes

Handbrake Callipers

ENGINE BAY:

Twin fuel pump for up to 650 bgp

Petrol tank link

clutch pipe bits

accelerator bits

Exhaust system in Stainless Steel - better than mild steel?

25 row Oil cooler kit

Accusump thingy

Getrag 6 speed - apparantly only does 28 mph per 1,00 rpm? Therefore if engine tops out at 7000 rpm max speed is: 196mph?

Transaxle invert kit thingy

engine/transaxle adapter thingy - do i need this and the invert kit thingy?

Clutch kit

Porsche starter

Start moters gear reduction type - what is this?

Aluminium glass cloth canopy - no ides on this?

Silicon radiator and engine bay kit

COCKPIT:

Steering Wheel

Steering wheel boss

Solid alloy gear knob

Ultima seats in leather

Lumbar support - any good?

Seat runners

six point seat belts

aircon kit

ELECTRICS:

Rwar lights

Triple Headlight kit

Relays and fuses

Switches (rocker type)

Wiper

All the battery bits

Instruments - only go up to 7,000 rpm?

headlamp relay

horn

WHEELS:

The only ones available. 13x18 and 9x18

TYRES:

The only ones available: 335/30 and 245/35

ENGINE:

377 c.i. 640 hp with dry sump and alluminium block - means i need cat converters as well? Where can I find the max rpm of this and other amerspeed engines? I have read that others say not to go for alloy block - but if its lighter the car will handle and brake better?

Anything I have missed that I should get or change?

Thanks!

If you're getting a full dry-sumped engine you won't need the Accusump

Engine specs here: www.amerspeed.com/cgi-bin/showultimaengines.cgi

Thanks - that's one thing _less_ on my list! (-:

The amerspeed website doesn't list max rpm? (just max bhp..?)

You just spec'd my car, a G50/20 6 speed gearbox would do ..

Occational tracks days the dry sump is optional with a accusump thing ... instead.

Rose joint suspension optional again

These depend on the track use ..

You require the 18 degree exhaust system in Stainless steel cermacoated

The 640 bhp 377 revs to 7600 if the engine has a steel crank and rods, and jesel rev kit

Save the money on the alloy block ..

Interesting reading from the AS web site. Looking at their warranty conditions here www.amerspeed.com/warrantyinfo.htm

does that mean that the 640hp engine has no warranty?

Surely this cannot be so?

Thanks G Man!

Any thoughts on going for the 700 bhp engine? Haven't been able to find out any informtaion on it... I am assuming it might be to lumpy for road use?

Another person saying no to the alloy block... any reason why? As if it is 40kg lighter that will make a big difference to the handling..?

Hopefully the amerspeed warranty webpage page is just not up to date with their latest engines....

Also - how any ideas how long it takes the factory to build a car from date of order?

Thanks guys!

The 640 bhp engine is very driveable, central London might be a different matter ...

You will never push a GTR to it's limits on the road unless you are extremely naughty ... The alloy block won't come into play .. for handling

This car will be exceptionally fast, have you every been to the factory for a drive ?

Ask Ted how long to build one, I would ask now for a Spring/Summer car !!!

Hi G Man - am hopefully arranging a test drive soon... are the factory amenable to installing other things - eg: mp3 player and alarm/central locking...? I know the mp3 player will for sure help the handling (-:

Thanks

Stereo install has been done and is in the build manual so MP3 should be easier.

Don't know if they have done an alarm but would assume so as most insurance companies will be expecting it.

Don't know if they have done central locking but I have so it can be done.

I guess there's a market for people to offer slightly custom building services? Does anyone build Ultimas for people other than Ultima themselves?

Thanks

Mine was built by Griffin Motorsport and I know for a fact they'd be happy to do another.

Superb job of it they made too

An Alloy block would mean it is a completely new engine and thus you can't use the pre75 emisions loop (as the engine has to be pre 1975 to qualify).... this will mean your car should have cats and pass current emission regs in the UK to pass SVA and become road legal.

Also an alloy block adds a lot to the cost of the engine.
